"All set?" Percy asked.

"Ready when you are," Annabeth assured him, shouldering her bag of equipment.

"Excellent. Let's go catch us an oversized butterfly!"

"... Percy, that was some of the worst French grammar I think I have ever heard."

"You're supposed to yell, 'hooray!' And charge out of the window or something!" Percy pouted, giving her the Baby Seal Eyes (TM).

Annabeth sighed. "Fine, then. On three, one, two, three!" They both sprinted for the window, Annabeth unlatching it just in time as they both leapt through, screaming all the way down. Annabeth really wondered where her brain went when she was around Percy sometimes.

At the last moment, a spurt of water slammed into them mid-fall, shoving them out of collision line with the pavement and towards one of those fabric canopies above a traditional shop. It barely broke their fall as they tore straight through it and landed sprawled on the ground, hard.

"What-" Annabeth gasped as they regained their breath, "Was that?"

Percy offered her a sheepish smile. "I thought we would bounce, or something. You okay?"

She shook her head in disbelief as she stood up easily and offered him a hand. "You are truly insane. Sometimes I really wonder..."

"Wonder what?"

"Where Prometheus hid your sense of self-preservation. Or your brain, for that matter"

"Oh ha ha Wise Girl, very funny."

"At least you only broke one tarpaulin this time," Annabeth tried to reason with herself, gazing forlornly up at the Percabeth-shaped hole in the fabric.

"About that... we may have also broken a fire hydrant..." Percy admitted, glancing awkwardly in the direction the water had come from.

Annabeth just pretended Percy didn't exist. Her life, she realised, would be so much simpler if that had been her policy from the start.

"So, Hawkmoth. Any ideas?"

"Yeah. He can't stay in his fancy-pants house-"

"Mansion, Percy. It's a mansion."

"He can't stay in his fancy-pants mansion all the time."

"That's true. So what do you suggest we do?"

"Oh, that was it. I was just stating the obvious. That's what I'm good at," Percy said. "You're the one who then makes a plan."

Annabeth held back another sigh. "Okay. So, he probably does't know our faces. Hopefully, anyway, as that's what this plan is riding on. We ring his doorbell, and gets ourselves invited in. Then we confront him."

"...'then we confront him?'"

"Oh, shut up. I'm on holiday too, you know. Besides, you're not that bad at improvisation, if it comes to it."

"Was that... a compliment?"

"Absolutely not. So we tell him we have something urgent to tell him about his son, but it needs to be in person. That way, he'll either have to let us in or come out to meet us. From what I understand, Miraculous holders have no power unless they're transformed, and a wealthy businessman of his esteem is not going to risk transforming in public. Hence, if he thinks we're a threat, he'll have to invite us in. Once we're alone together, you hold him at your sword point and warn him not to transform - he can't know that Riptide won't hurt him, and a villain who sends minions to fight instead of himself obviously values his life, so he'll do as he's told. Then I gag him so he can't say his transformation phrase, and search him for his magical jewel."

"The Miraculous?"

"The Miraculous. Once we remove the Miraculous, he can't transform as he needs to wear it to use it. When we have the Hawkmoth miraculous, we outpower him and he's smart enough to realise that, so he won't fight back. He'll probably try to trick us into giving it back, though, so we'll have to be careful. If he's managed to talk numerous normal citizens into becoming his super-powered evil minions, he's definitely got a way with words. Got it?"

"Got it. Can we stop talking and get on with the doing before thew shopkeeper realises we broke their shop and comes and yells at us?"

"Sure thing, Seaweed brain."

Together, the demigods headed towards Hawkmoth's (unusually luxurious) lair.
