Rena Rouge was freaking out. Yes, akumas had been around for ages, and she'd even helped to defeat some, but this time people were actually getting hurt. She couldn't even find it in her to be excited that she'd met two new superheroes. But Chat Noir, the legendary protector of Paris, was bleeding, and Tidal Wave had a hole through him that nobody could possibly survive.

As if confirming her thoughts, the water around Hawkmoth went slack, pooling on the floor and rushing over the edge of the platform, any life it had had gone. Bag Lady gave a strangled cry and raced to Tidal Wave's side.

"Seaweed brain, you are not leaving me now," Rena heard her say. "After everything we've been through, I'm not going to let a stupid butterfly kill you. I swear on the Styx that if you die, I'm going to march down there a-and-" she broke into sobs, and Rena realised that she'd been scooping water over his wound the entire time.

"And what, w-wise girl?" Tidal wave asked, coughing up blood. "Tell- tell me what you'll say to u-uncl-"

"Shhhh," Bag Lady whispered, still scooping water. Tidal Wave's eyes closed. The ice mask on his face was melting. Bag Lady screamed at the sky in an unfamiliar language.

"Rena, move!" Ladybug yelled, and she ducked to avoid being hit by a sharp butterfly. "Carapace, protect Pe- Tidal Wave!"

"Hawkmoth, you can't do this!" Chat yelled, leaping to distract the villain despite his injury.

"Do what? I'm only trying to fix what was already done," Hawkmoth hissed, but he stopped throwing blades.

"What's done is done, Hawkmoth. Move on," Ladybug called.

Hawkmoth snarled. "How dare you fight me!" He was glaring at Chat Noir. "My own son! You should be by my side!" Chat winced, but kept standing alongside Ladybug. Rena felt like she'd been punched in the gut. Chat Noir... was Hawkmoth's son? It was a huge scoop, but made her sick to her stomach. She couldn't see the resemblance at all.

"Fight with you?" Chat yelled hoarsely. "You just stabbed me! You just killed my friend! I won't fight with you in a million years!"

"Then you will die!" Hawkmoth shouted, but Rena snapped out of it, blowing her pipe and casting an illusion of hundreds of Chat Noirs, all running around Hawkmoth. The real Chat collapsed, and Ladybug dragged him back. The three of them hid behind a beam.

"Chat, you need to get to a hospital," Ladybug told him. "Quickly. I don't think we're going to win this fight."

"No," Chat protested. "He's my father. This is my fault. I should have noticed it was him ages ago."

"How could you have known?"

"I should have known."

"Chat, you're delirious. I won't let you die too. Go!"

"No! Call your lucky charm!"

"Fine. Lucky Charm!"

What looked like a lunch box fell out of the sky. Ladybug tore it open. Inside were a box and a bottle with a HAZARDOUS: DO NOT CONSUME label on it. The unlabelled box contained a first aid kit and the bottle looked like water.

"What use are hazardous drinks?" Rena asked.

"I don't know, but I have a feeling that Bag Lady might. Give them to her."

"Okay," Rena knocked on Carapace's bubble, and an entrance appeared for her. She climbed inside and handed the bottle to the girl, before kissing Carapace quickly on the cheek, relieved that he was still okay. Somehow Tidal Wave was still breathing shallowly.

Bag Lady tore the lid off the bottle and drizzled its contents immediately over Tidal's wound, which hissed at the contact. The liquid bubbled. She then poured the rest into his mouth.

"No!" Rena Rouge yelped. "It's hazardous!"

"He'll be fine, trust me," the blonde girl said distractedly, a faint American accent showing as she panicked. She slapped Tidal Wave's face a couple of times to get him to swallow, and he did. The last of his ice mask was dripping down his nose.

"How can you- Percy?" Rena Rouge froze as Tidal Wave's face came into view. A rush of cold pounded through her. This wasn't some random superhero sacrificing his life for the greater good, this was her friend, someone that she had met and knew and who had friends and a family of his own, dying. "Wait... Annabeth?"

"Yeah," Annabeth yanked the bag off her head, and slapped Percy again. "Wake up, you idiot."

"Annabeth, I don't think... I'm really sorry, but a wound that-" Rena looked at the place where a blade had torn through his flesh, and saw nothing but a pink scar beneath torn and bloodied clothes.

"What- Are you a healer? Is that your power?" Rena didn't stop consider how easy it was to assume that people could have powers, even when they obviously weren't wearing a miraculous.

"Something like that," Annabeth muttered, swigging the last drops from the hazardous bottle. Carapace stayed quiet, maintaining the bubble they were in.

Annabeth leaned over to slap Percy again, but before she could touch him he sat up with a gasp and splutter, bashing heads with her.

Rena had barely enough time to be stunned before Ladybug's body slammed hard into the bubble, a Lucky Charm falling from her limp hand.
