Ariadne
I take a couple of hours to braid my hair appropriately. Usually I just put it back in a scrunchie. But now, I need it out of my way. I put on my best hiking shoes, and thick cargo pants. I choose a short sleeved shirt, my favorite UNC Chapel Hill one that my mom sent me. She wants me to go there, when I turn eighteen and get to leave here. She already got my applications ready. She's excited for me to be home with her. Frankly, so am I.
But first this.
I pack my backpack. A utility knife, a couple of powerful flashlights, glow sticks, a towel, MREs, climbing rope, a harness, repel stuff, some more snacks, tampons, dry socks, first aid stuff, a change of clothes, sleeping bag, my old teddy bear, and a little water proof box of pain killers.
It's a good backpack, from back when I used to get to go hiking. 75L, but it buckles around my waist and chest. Inside the bag I stuff the reusable shopping bag I'm bringing to Viktor and his dad. It has a couple of books for Viktor, chocolate because that kid definitely isn't getting enough candy, and of course a wifi enabled, unlocked phone, as well as a satellite phone, cash, and credit cards.
Ready? Ready.
My door is locked fast, it always is this time of night. No matter. The window is there for a reason. I'm two stories up, but that is not the farthest I'm going to have to climb in the coming days.
