They're not a surprise. But they are different. Ah. I'll go with it. They came in through the window overnight and are nearly trapping me to the bed. That's okay. I was cold before.
"Morning," I say, shaking Maya's shoulder gently. She's cocooned in the blankets on her half of the bed. "How are you feeling? I'm feeling better; do you want to have sex?"
"No! I do not want to have sex on the creepy island place we've been kidnapped," she hisses, sitting up and trying to brush her hair out of her face. I help.
"Hm. Worth asking," I say, using a hair tie I had on my wrist to tie hers back.
"Glad you're feeling better---oh good. Grape vines," she says, finally noticing them.
"Yeah. I'm probably gonna go back to sleep for a few hours," I say, lying back down.
"No!" she pokes my shoulder, "We are finding out what is going on here. where Ariadne is, why there are armed guards everywhere and how we can leave."
"Do we have to?" I feel good now. I'm chilling. I take sip of wine from my cup by the bed. This could work. Being on an island.
"Yes. We are finding out what was going on here---before we were here," she says.
"Okay. Fine, I agree," she's right; it is a little different.
"Grant said that there was something up with Minos Industries, we get here and the daughter is missing and people are walking around with AK-47s? We have to at least make sure they're just really protective of their patents and aren't actually like I don't know---kidnapping people."
"Okay, fine, go get changed then wake me up," I say, rolling over into the pillow.
"No! Don't go to sleep---I don't know how we're going to do that."
"I do," I have a plan already.
"Do what?"
"Know how we're going to do that."
"You can't already."
"Yes. Yes I do. I am my father's son. I have every ability to come up with a mediocre plan in under thirty seconds, it's a Rhea family trait, coming up with stupid-ass plans that will work but in the dumbest way possible," I say, pleased with myself, rolling back over.
"Am I going to like this plan?"
"You're gonna love it. What's more, I love it."
