Teddy
"This is my logically sized shipping crate that I need to ship back to the United States, Maine, for good legal reasons," I say, very confidently.
"You realize this is gonna be oversize?"
"Yeah, do not care," I say, handing over my credit card, "I need whatever—next non-stop flight---and I also need to be on it. First class." I am not flying coach after this. And we need to get out of the country. I may have let Aster eat somebody's entire herd of cattle. Well, it was that or me spend the entire flight worried we're about to become a very bad rendition of Snakes on a Plane.
I finish booking the flight then take off to catch it. Meanwhile, I call my mum.
"Teddy? Are you doing okay----"
"Yeah yeah I'm great," I'm running for my flight, "Um look I'm not---actually, flying home."
"What?" I can hear the hurt in her voice.
"I'm----" that bastard can lie for me "I----I'm going to stay with Suf---my biological father-- for a bit. Catch up. His husband is nice and I want to meet my half brother."
"Oh, that's nice."
"Yeah, I'm really getting on with him."
"Theodore, how dare you lie to me?"
"Too far?" I wince.
"Where are you going?"
"I'll call you when I get off the flight once I've thought of an answer, I'm fine, I swear, it's just---complicated, I'm fine, this is what I need to do can you trust me?"
"Yes," she sighs, "But—"
"I'll call you when I land. Love you, bye," I hang up. I sigh. Here goes nothing.
