I woke up to the sound of voices, Mumbling something I couldn't quite make out. I opened my eyes. I was in the medjack's hut, laying on a bed. I quickly sat up, blinking, trying to make my eyes less blurry.
I saw Newt at Mt bedside talking with Clint, keeper of the medjacks. "What happened?" I asked, rubbing the back of my head. I must have hit it when I collapsed. Newt and Clint turn their gaze over to me, relieved that I was okay.
"Ren said you were fine one minute and the next, you went to stand up, and you collapsed," Clint said, checking my pulse.
"I'm so glad you're okay, Eve," Newt says, holding my hand. I pulled my legs over the opposite side of the bed and lift myself up.
"Woah, there, Eve. Take it easy. We don't want you to lose you balance again," Clint said, worry filling his eyes as he looked me up and down. "Seems as though you have a mild concussion. You should be fine to go back to running in a matter of days. We just need to find out the cause of this," Clint says looking to Newt.
"Have you been feeling alright lately? Any nausea, fatigue, headaches, anything?" Clint asks looking back at me. I shake my head.
"Nothing I can think of," I say. Clint looks over an notices a small bit of blood on my shirt.
"You must have torn a bit of skin on your side during the fall. Let me dress it and then I'll send you on your way," Clint says slightly lifting up the side of my shirt to reveal only the lower portion of my rib cage.
Clint looks over to Newt. A look of concern spreads across Clints face. He puts a small bandage over it and pulls my shirt back down.
"When's the last time you've eaten, Eve," Clint asks, hesitantly. My stomach turns at this question.
Oh no. Clint must have noticed that I've gotten quite a bit thinner since I had arrived. Would he tell Newt? Would I be in trouble? I didn't want Newt to worry.
"I don't know. This morning?" I lied. Newt's raises his eyebrows. Newt was with me this morning. He knew I hadn't eaten breakfast.
Clint nodded and said, "you should probably go get some more food I your system so you feel less faint."
"I'll take her," Newt says, still visably concerned.
"Actually, now that I think of it, I'm feeling a tad bit nauseous. I think I'll just wait for dinner," I lie, beginning to walk out of the hut. "Thanks Clint," I say before I leave.
"No problem. Hey, Newt can I talk to you for a second?" Clint asks, sounding a but suspicious. Newt cautiously nods as he shuts the door behind me.
I went back to Newt's hut to change out of his shirt that I had gotten blood on. I hoped he wouldn't be mad at this. But knowing Mewt, he probably wouldn't care.
Once I was finished I left the hut to go find Minho. He should be back from the maze by now. There's only about an hour before the maze closes.
I spotted Minho and Newt sitting at our picnic table talking. They both looked very distressed. I walked over to them and sat down.
"Hey, what's up with the long faces? Rough day?" I ask, trying to cheer them up. It didn't work. Their eyes were both fixed on me.
"Actually, Eve-we have uhh, been meaning to talk to you about something," Minho says, seriously. My smile disappears. I give him a 'go on' look.
"We haven't seen you eat a single meal in the past few days, Eve. We're worried about you. Why aren't you eating?" Newt asks.
I look away, trying to think of a good answer. A reasonable answer. But I couldn't find one. I look back up at Newt and Minho, whose eyes are still fixed in my face.
"I've been eating. I'm fine. Really, I'm okay. You guys don't have to worry about me, alright? I've got everything under control," I say, confidently but to no use. I wasn't fooling anyone.
"You can trust us, Eve. Just tell us what's wrong," Minho says.
"Nothing is wrong. I'm-I'm fine. Really," I lie once again, looking down at the table.
"We're just worried that maybe, maybe you might have an eating disorder or something," Newt says, rather awkwardly.
"No! I don't! I'm fine! I told you I am fine! I eat, okay?!" I quickly stand up and walk in the opposite direction of them. I needed a walk, to clear my mind. I wiped a tear that had fallen onto my cheek away and took a deep breath, continuing my walk.
(Again sorry this chapter is so short. Same trigger warning as last time for the next few chapters, so, continue if you want or not. I love you all! ❤ Thank you so much for 185 reads! More chapters coming soon I promise!)
