I woke up in the medjack's hut on one of the medical beds. Newt was sitting in a chair next to my bed, as well as Ren, Gally, Jeff, and Clint.
I quickly sat up and realized what had happened. Why I was here. Their eyes all shot up, surprised by my sudden movement.
My arms and hands were numb, probably from the painkiller they had given me while I was asleep.
"How long was I out for?" I ask a bit groggy.
"A few hours. It's midnight, currently," Clint responded as the gladers began to leave the room. "Newt wants to talk with you so we'll give you guys a moment."
The room had cleared out and all that was left were just Newt and I. His hair was a mess and his eyes were swollen from crying. But he managed to pull together a smile for me, even if it was a fake one.
"I'm glad you're alright," Newt says.
"I'm sorry, Newt. I didn't mean to make you worry like this. Ughh, I'm so sorry," I say, grabbing his hand and holding it in mine.
"No need to be sorry, love. I understand. You just lost your brother and your best friend."
"Who told you he was my brother?" I ask, changing the subject, or at least trying to.
"Thomas," he replies and I nod. "Clint says you'll need to stay the night in here so he can keep an eye on your vitals, and quite frankly, you," Newt says, his voice returning to its natural state.
"Your joking," I comment.
"No, Eve," Newt says seriously.
"No, Newt. I'm not staying here so you two can watch me. I'm fine on my own," I say, confidently.
"Clearly you're not, Eve. And I wasn't asking. I was telling you that you are staying here tonight," Newt says sternly.
I shake my head and get up, running for the door when Clint jumps put infront of me, blocking the exit.
"Please move, Clint," I say still upset that Newt thinks he owns me or something.
"I'm afraid I can't do that, Eve," Clint replies, hesitantly looking over at Newt who shakes his head.
"I'm not going to ask again. Move," I state, angrily.
Clint takes a step inside and shuts the door behind him. He shoots me an, 'I'm sorry' glance and Newt takes my arm and pulls me away from the door. I try to pull away but his grip on my tightens.
"Okay, what the hell?! Why won't you just let me leave?!" I yell at them.
"We're worried that you might try to do it again, Eve. We need to keep an eye on you," Newt says, feeling sorry for me. I don't need his pity.
"I won't do it again. I was just upset, that's all!" I shout. "And anyway, can't Newt just keep an eye on me while I'm comfortable in my own bed?! You know we share a hut right???" I yell once more.
Clint looked over to Newt who let's out a sigh and grabs my arm tighter. "Fine, let's go," Newt says walking me to our hut.
Most of the gladers we still awake, trying to contemplate everything that happened today, trying to come to terms with it. Either that or grieving.
I felt all of their eyes follow me as we walked to our hut. It felt like it had on my first day in the glade, only this time they weren't sending me looks of intrigue, instead they were looks of sorrow and remorse.
I hid my face with a wall of my hair and stepped inside of our hut, Newt followed close behind, letting go of my arm once he had the door shut. I lit a few candles and sat at Newts cluttered desk.
