this was a story that took place almost thirty years ago. back then, the former head of the demon slayer corps was only a mere child, as he watched his father lead the strongest swords men.

the young boy admired his father for having such a strong leader ship, he looked up to the row of pillars kneeling in front of him to show their respect.

"hitari kurai, please see me after this," the older man stated to the white hair boy. the boy who went by the name 'kurai' only bowed down, not a single word leaving his lips. the other hashiras only gave him concerned and disgusted stares. knowing he was famous for having a bad reputation and is always getting into trouble despite being a pillar.

as a human, hitari kurai had a different appearance. his black hair was originally a soft snow white, and his dull grey eyes, a pretty shade of green. some refer to him as a cat, especially since he had a personality similar to one.

as the meeting came to an end and all the pillars except the shadow pillar were dismissed, the stern man turned to his son, "kagaya, please return to your room and continue your training." the little boy nodded at his father's words, getting up he turned to the shadow pillar with a smile on his face, "bye bye hitari-san!" kurai gave the boy a small wave before the door slid shut.

"kurai."

"yes, oyakata-sama?"

"there's rumours going around that you have befriended a demon. i'd like to comfirm whether it's true or not? and please, do not lie to me."

the eighteen year old boy kept his mouth shut as he thought about his answer. "yes oyakata-sama, it's true."

"i see. may i know why you're friends with a creature that we demon slayers are supposed to kill?"

"reia has never hurt a single human her whole life, so it felt wrong for me to just kill her off like that," kurai explained, making firm eye contact with the man in front of him. "i'll assume this 'reia' girl is the demon," the man spoke, "and what makes you think she has never hurt a single human in her whole life? that could be a lie-"

"but it isn't!" kurai interrupted, "s-sorry for cutting you off like that oyakata-sama, but i trust reia and she's been helping me out with most of my missions. she's not like all the other demons i've killed."

"but you're aware that what you're doing is against the rules?"

"yes, i am."

"very well. i will discuss this with the other pillars, in the mean time, please refrain from associating with that demon friend of yours."

"thank you," kurai bowed before getting up to leave the room.
