The constant ringing of the office phones started to fade into the background as he stared out into space for the third time that morning. No matter how hard he tried to focus on his work, his mind would wander and replay all the events that had happened.
Where was she? Was the number one question on Nathan's mind everyday. He had no word of Amira and his superiors told him that he was off the case now.
They put him right back into the office to do paper work— and it was killing him.
Ever since the night of the explosion, he's been worried sick about Amira's health and whereabouts. He also hadn't heard anything about PJ and it made him mad to think that somehow PJ had kidnapped Amira.
Nathan swore that he would find her... but he had no means to do so. He was literally cut off from his privileges as an undercover agent.
"It's so fucking annoying," he cursed under his breath before laying his head down on his desk.
"What's annoying?" Josie, his desk partner, rose her head from the stack of files separating them.
"Nothing,"
"I doubt it's nothing... considering how miserable you've looked since coming back to work."
Nathan sat up and stared at the woman in front of him. She was a rookie who had joined his department while he was undercover.
"It's none of your business. Happy now?"
He also couldn't stand a bone in her preppy, petite body. She got the brunt of all his frustrations when it came to the case regarding Amira.
"Noted," Josie replied before ducking back down to type away on her computer.
He didn't mean to always snap at the blonde but she was just there... and he had no other outlet.
"Well, I'm off to see Mark. So if you need me, you know where," she said while picking up some files.
"You mean the software engineer?" He perked up.
"What's it to you?" She tried to be just as snappy as him but it only came out like she was asking herself.
Again, Nathan was cut off from any possible resource he could use... so this was a loop hole his boss wouldn't see.
"I need a favor,"
"Why should I?"
"Because... I promise to be nicer from now on," he put his hands over his heart.
"I'm listening..."

The French restaurant wasn't as nice as Amira thought it would be. Frankly, she was surprised it was still in operation. The tables and chairs were old and rocky — and that wasn't part of the design, Amira was sure about that much.
The light fixtures were just about ready to fall off the walls and the floors felt sticky under her feet. At this point she wouldn't be surprised if she saw a rat run pass them.
"How is this place still open?" She voiced her thoughts to Kai; who was sitting beside her, looking through the menu.
"Isn't it obvious? The food must be great," he smirked at her as she rolled her eyes.
"This place makes my skin itch,"
"Don't worry, we won't be here for long,"
