The sounds of horns and passing cars were all they could register as they ran down different streets in the night. It was unsure whether or not they were being followed from the safe house, so Kai didn't ease up one bit while dragging Amira along with him. He knew she must be overwhelmed and exhausted at the same time.
—not to mention that they were running in nothing but the clothes they wore to bed.
He quickly looked down to see that she was also running barefoot along with him. Suddenly, anger filled his heart and he couldn't believe what just happened. If he hadn't thought to check on Amira before going to bed...
He shook the thought away and held on to her even tighter. Amira might have thought no one cared about her but Kai knew for a fact that she had Micah, Brynne and himself who would never forgive themselves if something happened to her.
Before he could ask if she was okay, he felt her pull on his arm and they turned down another alley. The blinking lights of a club came into view.
Amira knew PJ would be here. He was the only person she could think of that could help her... and she prayed to God that he wasn't behind any of this.
The bouncer at the entrance didn't spare them a second glance when they walked up to him. Both Amira and Kai looked crazy in their bed clothes and barefoot. Not to mention Amira still had bandages on her arms and legs and Kai's face was black and blue.
"I need to see PJ, please it's urgent," she tried to tell the man but he brushed her off.
"PJ doesn't meet with low life junkies,"
Amira felt like she had been slapped. How dare this man judge her appearance and assume she was a junkie?
"Who the fuck do you think—" she started to curse before Kai pulled her away from the club entrance.
"Why are you trying to see PJ? You know who he is, right?"
"Don't worry, Kai. He won't hurt me,"
"Are you crazy? The man owns a whole drug ring that will not hesitate to kill for him."
Amira sighed, "Trust me, Kai. PJ isn't the person everyone says he is. He's the only person who can help us now."
Kai looked at her and wondered just what happened while he had been detained. He looked at her bandages and frowned. The only thing that mattered was her safety and she was right. PJ was the only one who could offer them protection.
Kai was almost certain someone from the MI6 sent the assassin. It was too coincidental that on their first night at the safe house, someone knew exactly where to find them— down to the exact bedroom Amira was in.
They could only trust PJ now because the MI6 would soon paint them as criminals to the world.
"You won't get to him like this." Kai watched as the bouncer let people in. There had to be a way for them to get in unnoticed.
He held Amira's hand and they walked away from the club and towards the alley right next to the building. Kai noticed that there was a door on the side and a satisfied smirk stretched at his lips. They would be able to get in through the back door. He pulled her forward with him to the back door and as soon as he reached for the handle, the floor flung open.
He quickly pushed Amira to the wall and covered her with his body as another bouncer carried out the trash. The bouncer turned to look at them and rolled his eyes.
"Oi, take your business elsewhere. Got it? This alley isn't for fucking around," he said to them before throwing the trash bag in the bin and going back inside; slamming the door shut behind him.
