I was sitting in the passenger seat of Emily's car, thankful she asked me to spend the night. We had pulled into the parking lot, my eyes watering a bit as she spoke, squeezing her hand in mine "-Just say the word and I'll be here before you know it blackbird." Looking up at her I could see something change behind her eyes. Butterflies filled my stomach as she placed her hand on my cheek "Em?" She looked at me, I felt my heart skip a beat and my breath shorten "Emily... I'm pregnant." In a blink of an eye her whole demeanor changed "Holy shit. JJ! I'm so happy for you!" What once was an intimate moment changed to one of joy between friends. "Come on let's get upstairs, it's getting late." Emily said pulling away suddenly. She got out of the car and grabbed my bag from the back seat "I'm able to carry my bag Em." I said going around and reaching for the bag. She shook her head "Not on my watch JJ. You've got precious cargo." Her smile was wide and honest. How the hell can she do that? One moment it felt like only god himself could keep us apart, the next she's congratulating me for a baby I'm not sure I want, with a man who can't even look at me.

We made our way into her apartment "That explains why you were being so standoffish when Garcia was handing out drinks!" Emily commented "When did you find out?" I hesitated my reply "Uh- This afternoon during lunch. I just had a feeling." Emily smiled at me once again grabbing us some bottled waters from the kitchen. "I'm only 6 weeks... At the most." I offered. Emily nodded sitting next to me on the couch "It's still early then. Does Will know?" I shook my head "No... I'm waiting till I can confirm it with a doctor. I want to make sure everything's okay before I tell him." I said solemnly. "I hope I'm not being rude, but you don't seem excited?" I thought a moment before replying "I'm just worried." Emily reached out, pulling me into her chest "JJ, everything's going to be okay." I don't know why, but I believed her. We discussed my concerns for a moment longer, Emily again promising that everything would be okay and that she was going to be there for me whenever I needed anything. After a while I was getting tired so I decided to ask Emily to turn on the TV, trying to avoid continuing the conversation. We finally settling on an episode of 'friends'. I stayed cuddled into Emily's chest as she absent-mindedly ran her fingers through my hair.

It was nice to be able to just sit within each other's company. No unrealistic expectations, no need to prove myself. I could be open and honest without worry of backlash, even in the silence it was comforting. Emily shifted underneath me "Alright blackbird, it's getting late we need to sleep." she said clicking off the TV. "Late? What are you and old lady? It's not even midnight!" I said poking fun at the gap between our ages. "Listen here youngster. I have a long flight tomorrow and I need to get you out of bed and into work before then!" She teased back softly pushing me up off her. I followed her into her room "Ah shit, Em? Do you have anything here I can sleep in?" I asked realizing I had forgotten to repack my go bag after the last case. Emily laughed and shuffled through her suitcase "Yeah, here" she said throwing me the familiar maroon hoodie and a pair of loose shorts "Oh, but careful. There may still be snot on that hoodie." I stared at her wide-eyed for a minute and she let out a snort "I'm kidding! I washed it. Maybe."

We changed and settled into bed. Emily wrapped an arm around my shoulders as we both laid up looking towards the ceiling. I rolled onto my side facing the raven-haired woman beside me. "Em?" I asked quietly. She glanced over at me "I'm going to really miss you." She let out a deep sigh "I know blackbird, but like I said. It's not forever- and if you need anything I'm here." Silence filled the air and for once I drifted off and into a peaceful sleep. The morning came much sooner than I wished it would've. My phone was the first one going off funnily enough "We have a case. It's local. Meet us when you can"-Hotch. I groaned reading the text. Emily was cuddled up to my back, her arms wrapped around my waist. I wished I could stay here forever but eventually her alarm pulled me back to reality. Emily shimmed away from me "Ah shit... good morning." She said sleepily. "So, when's your flight?" I questioned looking over at her. Emily laughed "Honestly? Whenever I get there. They sent the jet for me. It's on the same tarmac as the BAUs plane." I sat up "Damn Em. If I, were you, I'd never let that job go. Who else gets a private plane all to themselves?"

We got ready in mostly silence. It was odd, as our mornings were usually filled with jokes and snarky comments, but comforting. I dressed up in black slacks, a baby blue button up and my boots. Emily was a bit more casual than me for once, wearing a pair of nicer looking dark jeans, a dark red top, and some boots as well. I went to hand her hoodie back to her as she packed her suitcase, but she didn't reach out for it "Why don't you keep it?" She asked. I stood there speechless "Is that weird? I mean you basically have my closet in your dresser, but I don't know. We've never given each other clothes on purpose." She started rambling. "No Em. That's really sweet. I appreciate it." I said grasping the hoodie close to my chest. Emily nodded "Shall we get going?" She stated more than she asked grabbing my go bag and her suitcase. "Emily again I can carry my own bag!" I insisted. "If you try to take this from me, I'll arrest you." She stated flatly before laughing "Let's go blackbird."

Driving over to the BAU, Emily opted out of a coffee stop for my sake. We were talking about anything and everything before getting into a friendly argument about baby names "All I'm saying JJ is if it's a girl you HAVE to name it after me!" Emily said enthusiastically. "How we'll do you think that'll go over with everyone?" I laughed. "Seriously JJ, Reid and Garcia get to be Henry's god parents. It's the least you could do for your best friend!" She drew out the word 'best' as she spoke. We pulled into the BAUs parking lot "Who said you're my best friend?" I winked before jumping out of the car. "Oh! you're going to regret that Jenifer!" I heard her yell from the outside of the car. Emily got out of the car with a purpose before leaning against it, out for breath from her laughter "At least consider it, that's all I'm asking!" She managed to get out between breaths. I smiled at her nodding "I've got get in there." "Let me walk you up, I should say one more goodbye."

The elevator finally reached the correct floor and I stepped out with Emily following closely behind. Everyone was sitting at the round table when I made my way in "Sorry I'm late. Someone doesn't like to get up in the morning." I said elbowing Emily softly in the ribs. Emily gasped "Don't listen to her." Everyone smiled and took turns once again giving hugs and saying goodbye to Emily. I watched as she made her way back to the elevator leaving for, I don't know how long. I heard Hotch clear his throat "Alright guys, let's get to work."
