What's taking so long?

Aubrey fidgets her fingers as she stares at the wall clock.

The nurse said an hour, but it's been two! Does it take that long to do a blood transfusion?

For Aubrey, every second seemed like a minute and every minute seemed like an hour. Eventually, it felt like she'd been waiting for an eternity. The longer she waits the more she worries. The suspension is slowly eating away at her, but Aubrey refuses to lose hope. Not after all she said to him. Not after she forgave him for everything. All of the sudden, the once closed door slowly opens revealing the nurse who talked to Aubrey before.

"Oh! I must admit, I didn't expect you to be here." said the nurse. "Don't tell me you have been waiting here this entire time?"

"What's happening to Sunny?" Aubrey quickly asks as she walks up to the nurse.

"Easy girl. The boy's doing fine." the nurse assures Aubrey. "He's quite the tough cookie."

Aubrey sighs in slight relief. Once Aubrey calms down, the nurse pulls out a chair for herself and Aubrey. Aubrey accepts the nurse's kindness and sits.

"Do you know why the patient is in this condition?" asks the nurse. "His malnourishment, his stab wounds, his damaged eye, and the blood loss from before. We need as much info as we can so we know what we're dealing with."

Aubrey became hesitant.

"If the patient were to move again after treatment, we can't guarantee he'll survive next time." the nurse said. "Once was bad enough in his current condition. A second time he pulls a stunt like this and his chances of a successful recovery, even with perfect surgery and blood transfusion, will be no more than twenty percent."

Aubrey pales at the thought. Sunny wasn't an idiot who would do anything reckless, but the events of late beg to differ.

"He hasn't left his house for nearly four years. That's why he's like a twig." Aubrey begins. "As for the injuries, he had a fight with his friend. His friend had some blades on him. It was an accident and he mistook Sunny for someone else."

After the events of late, Aubrey wants to leave out the details and just give the nurse the basic answers. The nurse pulls out a clipboard and begins taking notes. Aubrey felt a bit pressured. This felt like an interrogation.

"Please don't mind me. We just want to know the cause of his condition." the nurse explains. "He and his friend came here without much of an explanation and so we didn't have much to go on."

Aubrey nods.

"Are his parents aware of his condition? The hospital couldn't get a hold of them."

"As far as I know, his mom lives in the city and his dad left the family."

The nurse simply nods as she continues to scribble on the clipboard.

"He's currently living without guardians?"

"I guess so..."

After some time the nurse puts down her clipboard and Aubrey is relieved that the questioning is over.

"Do you know why the patient decided to move around?" asks the nurse. "Someone who's in his state should move around in the hospital."

Aubrey froze at the question and pales. The nurse took notice of this.

"A staff member saw a blood trail leading from his room to the hospital staircase." the nurse adds. "I don't want to jump to conclusions, but..."

Aubrey grasps her arms and as her breath shakes.
