~ Ash's POV ~
Dawn and Zoey did great in this second round it was starting to make me nervous
now I was up and used Aipom and Buneary like I did before in my first round performance
Once the battle started May told her Venusaur to use pedal dance while her Delcatty used swift
that's when I told Buneary to use ice beam and Aipom focus punch to break up their plan
which lowered their points making me feel so confident but I knew it wasn't over
At the end May turned things around with her Venusaur's Solor Beam and Delcatty's swift, making me lose
I felt devastated but still felt good about myself because the experience which I know will help Aipom and Buneary a whole ton in their battling
"thank you both so much" I hugged them tightly as they gave me a sad face
"no worries, it was our first time, next time I'm sure we'll win!" I smiled as they both nodded and we shared another hug
"hey you three did great, I really enjoyed battling with you" May smiled as her Venusaur and Delacatty cheered
"same to you, congratulations" I smiled as she extended a hand to me which I shook
"Ash!" I heard when I got out of the dressing room
"hm?" I turned blinking as I saw Dawn
"oh hey Dawn!" I smiled brightly
"you three did great, too bad you lost" Dawn frowned
"it's okay, it was about the experience at the end of the day" I smiled with a shrug
"Pip!" I heard Piplup
"hi Piplup" I smiled bending doing to pet him as Pichu came from behind him and jumped into my arms
"Pichu!" I smiled hugging him as he chimed at me
"you want to watch the rest of the contest?" Dawn smiled
"yeah but first I want to make a call, you can go ahead if you'd like" I smiled as I held up my phone
"oh okay" she smiled then had an evil smile spread across her face
"so tell me, is it Gary" she cooed as she made kissy faces at me
"n-no!" I snapped back with my face red knowing I was gonna call Gary
"your face says otherwise" she giggled
"anyways I better get going they'll announce the final round soon!" she smiled as I nodded and saw as she hurried along with Piplup
"hey Gary" I smiled as he answered my FaceTime call
"hey Ash" he smiled back
"I saw you you lost" he added as he frowned
"yeah, but it's okay" I smiled assuringly
"I still wish you would've won though" he sighed
"it's okay, at the end of the day it's not like I'll enter the grand festival remember I do gym battles" I giggled
"yeah I know" he chuckled
As we talked a bit more about how things are at the lab I saw the final matches were announced and Dawn was up against Zoey
"I better go, it looks like Dawn's up and I want to cheer her on" I smiled at Gary as also smiled
"yeah of course" he smiled
"I'll talk to you later?" he added
"yeah I'll call you later tonight" I smiled
"okay, well take care, I love you also call your mom you haven't done so" he lectured
"I know I know" I shook my playfully
"anyways I love you too, bye" I smiled as he waved and I ended the call
"let's go Pichu" I smiled as he nodded saying goodbye to some wild Maril's he was playing with while I was at a bench talking
"Pichu!" he hopped onto my shoulder as I went into the stadium and sat down with Aipom and Buneary
~ 3rd Person POV ~
"the way Zoey mixed Glameow's iron tail with Misdreavus's shock wave so incredible that'll cost Dawn some points!" the announcer said excitedly as the battle went on
"20 seconds and it looks like Zoey's in the lead" Ash fidgeted with his fingers
"Pichu Pichu Pichu!!!" Pichu said trying to get Ash's hopes back up
"you're right, 20 seconds is still enough time to turn things around!" the ravenette smiled as he kept cheering the bluenette, Piplup and her Togepi along
