A Shock to the System

Janae felt relief when Sammy woke up, the weight of guilt left her shoulders. Speaking of left, Sammy lifted off of Janae's lap, making her legs feel queasy "Hey Sammy, how are you feeling?" Yaz asks her

"Like I got punched in the stomach by a porcupine so you know better"

Suddenly Janae slaps herself on her head "Oh my god" Everyone looked at her confused "Why did you just slap yourself?" Yaz asks

"Scorpius. The name came from the scorpion. The stinger of its tail is venomous, just like the quills on the Scorpius. That should have been a no-brainer" She shakes her head in disappointment

Darius stood up looking up at the sky, clearly thinking of something. "Let's get back to the boat while there's a break in the storm"

"What about the Scorpius?"

"We have to risk it. We might not get another chance" Darius was right, they had to get off soon. Janae gathers all of the supplies she packed up. As she was packing up, she looked at everyone in the camp, packing up. All except for Ben "Where is Ben?" She asked herself.

From afar, she saw cans of food left on the ground right next to a footstep, he went to see Bumpy. "Oh Ben"

"Where's Ben?" Brooklyn asks. Janae turned around to her after getting the supplies Ben dropped "Let's go find him"

The kids searched nearby for Ben, he couldn't have gone far. "Bumpy ran off 'cause of the Scorpius Rex. Ben must be going after her" Brooklyn said unsure "It's the only reason he would run away"

"Then I'm going after him" Darius starts to run in the opposite direction. "Uh Darius, are you sure about that? With the Scorpius still out there, it's a huge risk" Janae tried to reassure him

"That's why I'm going alone, we can't risk all of us"

"Again?" Brooklyn stepped up to Janae's side "You don't always have to do everything alone"

But did Darius listen? Nope "Get to the boat. If Ben and I aren't there by sunrise, well, you know what that means and you can leave without us"

"What no we're not leaving you!" Janae tried to stop him but he turns around so suddenly, eyes widen "Shush, over there" Janae turned around slowly to see nothing "Uh Darius, I don't see anything"

Poof, Darius was gone "He needs to stop doing that" Janae shook her head. Sammy hugs Yaz tighter "What do we do now?"

Kenji sighs out of defeat "We go to the boat"

"Stupid Darius thinking we're gonna stupid leave without him on that stupid boat" The group went back to camp to get all of the supplies. Janae carried extra bags so Yaz could take care of Sammy

"Don't worry. The kid's got major FOMO. He'll make it before sunrise"

"But are we?" Kenji suddenly stops dead in his tracks. Up ahead were broken trees and branches, the Scorpius went this way. "Everything's been smashed, knocked down, or trampled. Stupid Scorpios messing up that stupid path to the stupid boat."

"It's okay. We just have to turn left at the bush that had the berry beard. Which was...maybe that one?"

"Oh, who are we kidding? That Scorpios is gonna find us before we find the boat"

"No, we'll be okay. Kenji, Brooklyn, and Janae got this. Right, guys? I believe in you" Yaz encourages the three kids up ahead. Janae couldn't believe what she was hearing "Ok. And?"
