Trigger Warning: death
I wore the stethoscope that was given to me earlier. They said that there might be emergency patients later and that we should get ready. I've never assisted them when it comes to operations. I'm quite nervous.
"Kanina ka pa nakatayo d'yan, Rylee. Okay ka lang?" she placed her hand on my shoulder.
"I'm okay po. I'm just a little nervous." I said honestly. She laughed at me and patted my back.
"Madali lang 'yon para sa'yo. Ikaw nga isa sa mga naaasahan namin dito. Kaya mo 'yan." she left to attend something. I went to check the nurses and doctors and ask if they need any more help. A patient was vomiting and most of them were busy so I attended to this patient instead.
"Tagilid po kayo." I helped him turn to his side. I took an emesis basin and held it while gently rubbing his back. After he finished vomiting, I wiped his mouth with a clean washcloth.
"Thank you! Akin na 'yan, Ry. Thank you talaga sa pag-salo." A nurse took it from me and kept apologizing but I told her that it was okay for me.
I attended to another patient who just came. I took her temperature and recorded her symptoms. I also updated her medical history and helped her prepare to see the doctor. It was chill in the morning. I felt like I was still doing nothing compared to them so I tried harder.
"Emergency! Call the emergency room doctors!" Sigaw ng isang doctor at nagmamadali umattend sa mga nakapasok na. They tried so hard not to panic because there were a lot of patients! Palingon lingon ako dahil hindi ko alam ang gagawin ko.
"Alvarez, assist me here. Dalhin natin sa OR." sabi ni Doc Bunyi. I nodded and quickly did what she wanted me to do. We brought the patient to the OR. We all wore masks and gloves before we went inside.
"Vitals?"
Sinagot naman siya ng nurse na nasa loob. She checked every corner of the patient's body. She quickly figured out what the problem was. Ang bilis nga, eh. Well, They got used to it.
"Scalpel." tumingin siya sa akin. I quickly went over the instruments and gave her the scalpel. "Prepare gauze." I nodded and took a lot of gauzes.
"Forceps, please." she didn't remove her look from the inside of the body while asking for the instrument that she needs. When she opened the organ, blood started spraying. "Suction! Clean the blood! Wala akong makita!" sigaw niya sa amin.
"Yes, Doc!"
We followed her orders. It was quite obvious that it's difficult to manage. By looking at it, it doesn't seem right. The patient was still dropping a lot of blood. I looked at her vitals. It's starting to scare me.
"She's losing a lot of blood," I said.
"I'll find it." sagot ni Doc Bunyi. She started looking for where the leakage was but she was struggling. She closed her eyes while inserting her hand in. She tilted her head like she doesn't know where it is.
