Crossing Through A Valiant Heart (ON-GOING)

Chapter 29

It's been a week and I have decided to look for him. Something doesn't feel right and not hearing from him makes me worry but I have already checked the places near our college and I even asked Ana for ideas but he's just not there. 

"Alam niyo ba kung anong oras siya nag resign sa hospital?" I asked one of the nurses who had talked about him in the past. She looked at me suspiciously before giving me an answer that did not help.

I finished my shift and started cleaning my locker because I'll be gone for a week. Pinapalipat nila ako sa isa nilang branch dahil kulang sila doon. After that, they'll be giving me a break so I'm motivated to finish my job right now.

"Huy, 'wag mo kaming kakalimutan pag balik mo dito, ah." I smiled at them and laughed after.

"It's just for a week."

"Kahit na. Alam mo ba? Maraming hindi na bumabalik dito kasi pinapa-stay na sila doon. Kaya mag ingat ka at 'wag mo galingan masyado." She tapped my shoulder and I nodded as a response.

The hospital branch that I'll be working in is very far from my hometown and I doubt that I can even stay there. Pinagbigyan ko lang dahil isang linggo lang naman daw at mataas taas ang sahod. I need the money to give to Luca because I wanted to help him more. Speaking of, I have not been in contact with Luca and Jace nowadays.

I rented a place near the hospital so I don't need to travel back and forth to rest. Whenever we have a little break, I searched for places that I could visit next week to look for Ice. He's hiding too well and he makes me want to give up. But before he left, he's been wanting to tell me something and I just.. want to hear it. All of this just to hear him say goodbye again probably.

"Na-handle mo ng maayos and emergency rooms natin, Ms. Alvarez. I can see that you have been working hard and I no longer wonder kung bakit ikaw ang pinilit nila sa amin." the doctor gave me a tap on my shoulder and complimented me a lot.

"Thank you, Doc. This is the job that I enjoy and I'll keep doing my best to improve." I remember how many times I failed in our emergency rooms back in the main hospital. This is an improvement, I guess.

"That's the spirit. Anyway, see me at the office after your shift." 

Medyo nagtaka ako kung bakit pero ginawa ko lang din ang sinabi niya. After my shift, I headed straight to his office. He was sitting on a chair while sipping coffee, holding a couple of papers. Namukhaan ko pa 'yung envelope na hawak niyang isa. Kinabahan ako bigla.

"As we talked about earlier, you're doing a fantastic job. I heard that they also tried putting you in the operating rooms and we'd like to try that next. How about spending a month in this hospital?" he raised an eyebrow and placed his cup of coffee down on the table.

I cleared my throat. I practiced what I was going to say in a situation like this. "I'm sorry, sir. But this place is far from the places I usually go to. I'm not afraid of adjustment but I can't spend a long time here. Marami pa po akong aasikasuhin sa labas ng trabaho."
