Chapter 24

"Ate, won't you take some rest?" Selene was fixing her bag, on her way to college. She looked at me from up and down. "You seemed tired from yesterday. Sabi sa akin ni Kuya Kobie na 'wag kang pilitin magtrabaho. Maybe you should stay at home for today." 

I gave her a smile and fixed my hair. "I'm all right. Thanks for the worry, though. You should go now, you might be late." I looked at the clock.

She sighed and nodded. "Ingat, Ate! Mauuna na po ako." She left my unit hurriedly.

Kobie didn't have time to bring me to the hospital and I told him not to worry about it. I had enough money with me so I can ride a taxi. As soon as I arrived, I saw two ambulances right outside the hospital. I hurriedly left the taxi but didn't forget to pay.

"Rylee! Buti nandito ka na! Kailangan namin ng maraming tulong sa emergency room. Ibaba mo na mga gamit mo, ha." A doctor ran past me. I nodded and quickly changed my clothes and wore a mask.

"God!" I accidentally hit my arm on the locker when I was hurriedly changing my clothes. It hurt so bad but I had to leave and help them quickly. I gritted my teeth when I felt more pain but immediately left the locker room to attend to them.

I attended to more than 10 patients for this accident and most of them were transferred to the Operating Room.

"Ate, paki asikaso naman ako, oh!" The man tried grabbing my arm. Mabilis akong napalingon dahil ang hinihila hila niya pa ay 'yung tumama kanina. "Kanina pa ako naghihintay dito!" sigaw niya.

"Babalikan ko po kayo-" Someone gently grabbed my other arm and took me away from the man. Natahimik ako sa ginawa niya.

"Ako na po ang bahala sa inyo." Ice leaned on the patient and helped treat his wounds and talked to him about his matter. Hindi man lang tumingin sa akin si Ice. Napahawak ako sa braso ko at tiniis 'yung sakit.

As I tried walking away, a nurse bumped into me, hurriedly attending to Ice. Marami namang espasyo sa kabila, kailangan niya pa ba ako tamaan?  Hindi ko na lang 'yon binigyan pa ng pansin at umupo muna sa gilid.

I leaned my head on the wall and waited for the pain to leave my body. Pinagpapawisan pa ako dahil kanina pa ako patakbo takbo. Tumayo na lang ulit ako nang makita kong may bata na nangangailangan ng tulong. 

I helped her clean her wounds and covered them up to prevent infection. I attended to more patients and I successfully did my tasks. I walked to some nurses to report. After reporting, I leaned on the rails and started reading the papers on my clipboard. I looked to my right when I heard a lot of whispers.

"Doc, may girlfriend ka ba? Nung isang araw ko pa hinihingi number mo pero ayaw mo." she giggled while she was putting things on a tray.

"I don't randomly just give my number out." he sighed and stood up to walk away but the nurse held his wrist to stop him.

"Mukha ba akong random sa'yo? Sige, dinner later! Para mas makilala nation isa't isa. Deal? My treat!" she winked at him and had a big smile on her face.
