Chapter 25

He placed my hair at the back of my ear.

"Water?" inabutan ako ni Kobie ng tubig. Katatapos lang naming umakyat sa bundok. Selene wasn't with us because she's still in school. They decided to change my shift tonight. I slept throughout the entire morning and waited for Kobie since he invited me to climb a mountain.

"Thank you," I smiled and took the water that he offered me to take.

"Tell me when you're going home later night. Day off ko ngayon at pwede na kitang makasama." He laid down on the grass. He put his hand on the sky, his palm facing me. I looked at it and held his hand.

"The sky looks pretty," I said while looking at our hands.

He laughed. "Yeah, it does." he held my hand tighter.

I thought of running on the grass with him. Bigla akong naexcite kaya tumayo agad ako at hinila rin siya patayo. I ran, waiting for him to catch up with me. The wind was blowing my hair back. I looked back at him and I saw him running after me. When a cliff was near, I stopped and smiled. When he was running closer, he hugged me from behind.

"Happy birthday, Ry." he whispered. I shut my eyes close and felt the cold wind pass through me. "May this be the happiest day in your life." he laughed and I felt his breath touch my ear. Natawa na lang din ako pero sa totoo lang, 'yun din ang hiling ko.

We stayed silent in that position for a few cold minutes. Nung naramdaman ko ang gutom, dahan dahan akong kumalas sa yakap niya at nahihiyang tumingin sa kan'ya. He tried reading my expression but failed.

"May problema ba?" tanong niya.

"Uh.. Gutom lang.." I smiled. Nahihiya akong mag-aya kumain, hindi ko rin alam kung bakit.

"I got you." He giggled and held my hand. We walked down the mountain until we saw someone selling dirty ice creams. Nagkatinginan pa kami bago lumapit. Exactly what I was craving for!

"Dalawa po into, Kuya." Siya na 'yung pumili para sa akin dahil hindi ako makapili. Tumingin ako sa paligid habang hinihintay siya. Sobrang lamig sa taas ng bundok, pero maganda. Kung dito kaya ako tumira? "Salamat po."

I looked back at him when he walked near me and gave me the ice cream. We both tasted it like it was something new. We both laughed and shook our heads. 

"So much for an ideal birthday trip," I said. Nabigla ako nang lagyan niya ng ice cream ang ilong ko. It was so cold! "What are you doing?" I laughed but I did the same.

"Wala lang. Just thought that it would be funny." He shrugged and finish his ice cream whole in one go. Our cones were really small but that was still surprising to me. Does he not want to enjoy the ice cream a little longer?

"Should we go back for Selene? I want her to be a part of today, too." I suggested while we were walking down the mountain to go back to his car.
