GREY KINGSTON

as the tank tears down the fences, plowing right over them, daryl grabs carl and i and pulls us behind an old medicine cabinet.

the tank is shooting at the prison, exploding holes into the brick walls. the governor's people are crouch walking behind it, shooting at our people.

i know rick is still on the field with the governor and carl does too.

"i'm going to help my dad!" carl yells, but the minute he tries to stand up, daryl yanks him back down.

"your dad wants you alive so you stay with me!" he yells and then looks to his left at me. "you too, so don't even think about it!"

"what about michonne?" i ask frantically. "did you see her? did she get away?"

"i don't know." daryl shakes his head.

the three of us are constantly up and down, shooting and then ducking behind the cabinet. all i hear is gunshots. i can barely hear daryl or carl yelling just 10 inches away from me.

i let shots go, aiming at the people walking beside the tank. they're now on the concrete just a couple feet from C block and i feel a territorial instinct come over me as i see how close these assholes are to the building we call home—the home they're destroying.

i quickly duck down as i hear the bullets ripping into the metal cabinet on the other side of my head.

"fuck!" i scream. "i'm out of ammo!"

"ammo's past the tank! don't even bother!" daryl yells.

"i gotta get the emergency bags we packed for the cars!" i yell, bracing myself to run and dodge the bullets that are flying our way. i close my eyes for a second as my head rests against the cabinet. i take a deep breath and then i'm sprinting.

"grey!" carl yells the second i start running in the opposite direction so i can go around to another entrance into the prison.

"i'll be back!" i scream, but i don't even know if he can hear me.

i run around the side of the building, pulling open the metal door. this leads into the hallway before the storage room and before the main corridor. it's dark and so much quieter in here, the gunshots and explosions are muffled—as muffled as explosions and gunshots can be.

i run down the hall, tightly gripping my gun in case i need to use to it knock a person or walker down.

"beth!" i yell, seeing her in here.

"where's judith?" she screams, looking around in a panic.

"what?" i ask, running to grab our emergency bags.
