Chapter Nineteen

Chapter Nineteen

KAMINA

“Mission complete, Kamina. You were able to save Neji, who was on the verge of dying. Your first Jonin mission, or A-rank mission as I would put it, was a success.” Tsunade said as I stood in front of her desk

“Thank you, Tsunade-sama” I said as I bowed.

“You may rest no-“ I interrupted her before she could speak.

“If I would make a request, Lady Tsunade, I would like an S-ranked mission but this time, I want it as a solo mission” I said

Lady Tsunade was surprised. “But you only came back from another mission” she said with brows furrowed

I sighed. “I am aware of that, Lady Tsunade. But I would like to take my mind off of certain things and a long, solo, S-ranked mission would surely be appreciated. I’ll take any mission! Join the Akatsuki, kill everyone in a bingo book, and kill an army of rogues. You name it, Lady Tsunade” I said with determined eyes. She held my gaze for a while before sighing and taking out a scroll.   

“I have a special mission that I can’t seem to find the right ninja to put on the job. I guess since you’re stronger than, probably, all the senseis combined, I’ll give it to you but I’m not sure if you’ll agree to it” she said

“For how long will it last?” I asked

“Until my desired time. This could take forever, are you sure you want to take it?” she asked

“I’ll take it! What’s it about?”

“To gather info on Orochimaru”

I felt my insides freeze at what she said….. Does that mean that I’ll meet Sasuke again? I was having second thoughts since there might be a possibility that I’ll bump into the person that I wanted to get some space with. But a part me somehow hoped that we’ll meet again…. Thinking about my decision for a while longer, I finally had an answer.

“Fine… I’ll take it” I said

Let’s make faith do its work… During this mission, gathering info on Orochimaru is my only priority.

“Very well, since Orochimaru wants you back, it should be easy for you to get close to him. As you train with Orochimaru, I want you to gather as many info as you can then secretly send them here to Konoha. When do you want to start?”

“Right now” I said

“Now?! Why so fast?!”

“The faster the merrier. But before I leave, I’ll have to say goodbye to a few people”

“I think you prefer to the more the merrier” Tsunade said with a sweatdrop.

“Same, same, same, Lady Tsunade. I’ll pack my bags right now then say goodbye to some people who are dearest to me here in Konoha. If some people ask why I left, just tell them that I shall return and I always will because Konoha…. Is my home. Please also tell them that I’ll always remember to give them gifts on their birthdays” I said

Tsunade stared at me with teary eyes before nodding and giving me the scroll which contained all of the things I needed to do for my mission. I went home and packed my bags. I went to my room and saw a familiar necklace on my bedside. I examined the necklace for a while before putting it around my neck and keeping it inside my shirt. The necklace that Sakura gave me was inside my bag and so were the other gifts that my friends had given me. I also packed Pan-Pan, my teddy bear, before giving my apartment one last look and locking the door.

I walked down the streets of Konoha until I reached the hospital where I knew I would find a certain lazy Nara. As I walked inside the doors, I saw Shikamaru with his back against wall and with a troubled look.

“Hey” I greeted

He raised his head and stared at me for a while before replying. “Hey”

I stood beside him with my back also against the wall. “I came here to say goodbye”

He turned his head towards me and his eyes widened. “What?!”

I faced him with a slight smile. “I said, I’m here to say goodbye”

“What do you mean goodbye?! Where are you going?! Will you come back?! When are you leaving?! When-“ as he continued to ask me questions, I cut him off by wrapping my arms around his neck.

“Shika, you’re like the brother I never had. Right now, Konoha is my home and I will always come back… I love you, nii-san” I said

He stood silent for a while before I felt his arms around my waist. “I’ll miss you, Kamina… You’re really like a sister to me” he said as he tightened his hug and I found myself doing the same. We stayed like that for a while before I pulled away and gave him one final smile, which he returned, before walking further down the halls of the hospital and stopping in front of a room where I know Naruto is currently confined in. Once I opened the door, team seven- not including Sasuke- was inside the room. I smiled a bit when I saw a conscious Naruto sitting on the hospital bed.

“Hey guys” I greeted

“Hi Kamina” Sakura said with a bit of sadness as did Naruto while Kakashi-sensei gave me a salute.

“How’re you doing, Blondie?”

“Fine, I guess” he replied

I faced them all before taking a deep breath. “I just came here to say goodbye” I said

“What?!” all of them said in unison.

“I’m here to say goodbye” I repeated.

“Goodbye?! Where are you going?!” Naruto asked

“Are you going after Sasuke?! Are you going to leave us too?!” Sakura asked with tears forming in her green orbs. My eyes softened before I wrapped my arms around the pinkette.

“I can’t really tell you where I’m going. But please remember that wherever I go, I will always come back to all of you… because you guys are my home and my new reason to live” I said for everyone in the room to hear. I could hear the sobs of Sakura as I saw tears forming in Naruto’s and Kakashi-sensei’s eyes. Sakura continued to cry on my shoulder before she finally pulled away.

“P-promise y-you’ll c-c-come back, okay?” she said as tears continued to roll down her cheeks.

I smiled a little before wiping her tears away with my right hand and placing it on her cheek. “I promise” I said sincerely.

She hugged me once again before I moved on and hugged Naruto. “Nii-san, please stay strong. I love you, brother” I whispered. He soon wrapped his own arms around me.

“I will… Take care of yourself, nii-san” he said.

Once we pulled away, I quickly ran and wrapped my arms around Kakashi-sensei’s waist which caught him by surprise. “Goodbye sensei, I’ll see you when I see you” I said

He hugged me back and ruffled my hair. “See you when I see you, kid… Take care and stay the same, alright?”

I pulled away and nodded with a smile. We all had one last round of hugs before I finally walked towards the village gates.

“Hey there, Kamina!” Izumo greeted when he saw me

I smiled as I walked towards them. “Hey guys, I’m going away for a couple of years because of a mission so I’m allowed to go out of these gates. See you in a few years, guys” I said as I started to walk away.

“Sad to hear that but good luck, Kamina!” Kotetsu shouted out as I leaped away to a hideout that was close to the Leaf…

Forget Sasuke? No. Forget the pain? Yes. Forget my friends? No. This mission was to only forget the pain and gather info for the safety of my own village. My hopes rise up and I am hoping that maybe I will see Sasuke but a part of me is also wishing that I would not even get a glimpse of him again. But for some reason, I find myself still in love with that raven-haired Uchiha…… who broke my heart despite how I shared my pain with him.
