EPISODE 13: Cora

-UNDERWORLD-

The next day Kore woke up to the sound of a knock on her door. She was startled. Maybe it was him again she thought. The door slowly opened.

-       "Your highness, your breakfast awaits." Cora said standing on the door.

It took a moment for Kore to come to her senses. She had lost track of time. Without Helios, she was lost. She stepped out of bed and went outside the door. Cora escorted her to the dining table. The room was huge...but dark. There was no one there. She sat down on one of the many seats clearly available and before Cora could walk away she said.

-       "Excuse me...could you stay here, please. Sit down next to me." Kore said tapping the seat next to hers.

She was used to being surrounded all the time

She was used to being surrounded all the time. Without her nymphs, she felt lonely.

-       "Oh...your highness, how could I? We are not allowed to sit at the Lord's table." Cora said surprised.

-       "Where is he though?" Kore said while looking around.

-       "The Lord? Today he had business outside. He usually comes back in a few days." Cora said.

-       "A FEW DAYS?" Kore yelled. "How much is a few days? I can't spend a few days in here." She said panicking.

-       "I'm sorry your highness." Cora bowed. "I'll leave you to it now."

-       "No wait...please sit here. I allow it." Kore said moving her head up and down rapidly.

Cora sat shyly on the table. Kore stared at her. She didn't seem that different from them. Of course, she didn't have a glow to her, and her skin color was a little faded...after all, she was a soul. Kore didn't know much of the underworld, but she figured that much, that souls slowly lost their color once they left their human bodies.

-       "How much time have you been down here." Kore asked taking a bite of an apple.

-       "I arrived 50 years ago, your highness. I've only recently arrived here." Cora said.

-       "So you died...50 years ago... that's more than what I have lived." Kore said.

-       "No, your highness." Cora responded. "I died 160 years ago...I spent 110 years on the beach..." Cora said sadden.

Kore looked at Cora's sad expression. She remembered what the nymphs had said. Cora must have suffered a lot at The Beach, feeling hunger and pain, and not being able to do something about it.

-       "What was your life like...when you were up there...alive." Kore asked curious.

-       "I don't remember your highness...I don't remember anything before the beach." Cora answered.

-       "I see..." Kore said looking at her with empathy. "I'll go to my room now...if you'll excuse me." She said standing up.

Kore stood up and started walking to her room. She was a little bit distressed. How could gods allow such things? She wanted to explore that palace; see if she could find a way out of the underworld herself, but something kept her from doing it. She entered her room and stayed there for several days. She entertained herself trying to grow flowers sitting on her bed. She could do so, but after she grew them, they couldn't stay alive. She heard a chariot through the window, and stood from the bed to see. She opened the curtains that she kept close out of fear and looked down. It was Hades, he had arrived.
