EPISODE 22: She'll be there

-OLYMPUS-

Zeus was at his throne looking down at humanity, making sure everything was in perfect order, but he saw some things were off. People were starving, praying him for mercy and food. They usually prayed to Demeter, goddess of agriculture, but since their prayers weren't being answered and the lands were not producing, they prayed to Zeus desperately. He saw lands becoming dry faster than light. The earth was becoming a nonstop winter. People were dying as they were not prepared. Demeter's promised wrath was unleashing. Zeus was outraged, mainly because he could not send her to Tartarus to burn. He could, but it wasn't in his best interest. There wasn't another agriculture and fertility goddess other than her and Kore, and Kore was now in the underworld. The more he stared at the human realm, the more he grew angry. He had just recently made his brother happy. That brother that he had to banish to another realm to rule, not with malice, but with duty. That brother that had spent several millennia in the underworld...alone. He had to make a choice, or Demeter would destroy everything ever created until her daughter was returned to her. He figured that part of the year without harvest would not kill the humans if they prepared for it adequately. He thought that Kore could spend part of the year on the garden with Demeter, helping her on the lands, and the rest with her husband. It wasn't fair for Kore since he knew her heart, but he had to. He was saddened for this decision, but he had to think about everything and everyone. He called for Hermes so he could deliver his commands to both Hades and Demeter.

-       "You called for me, Zeus?" Hermes said.

-       "Yes, I need you to deliver these orders to both Hades and Demeter. Tell them that I command that Kore spends half the year with Demeter, and the other in the underworld, with Hades. Tell Demeter that's all I can give her and it's my last offer or she'll face the consequences. Tell my dear brother that I..." He sighed "that I'm sorry..." Zeus said looking down. "Tell him what you've seen in the human realm...the devastation Demeter has caused. I did what I could for him...it's all I can do...Go now...This madness can't go any longer. Today at sunset, Kore has to be with her mother..."

-       "Yes, Zeus

-       "Yes, Zeus." Hermes said bowing.

-UNDERWORLD-

Hermes quickly went straight to the underworld. On his way he saw the people begging and praying to them for food...When he arrived to the underworld, Kore and Hades were at the dining table having breakfast. He stood at the entrance of the room and Hades looked at him. He knew Hermes was a messenger, and when he came all the way down to the underworld he was the bearer of uncomfortable news. His face changed. He was having breakfast placidly with Kore for the first time, enjoying the life he forgot he still possessed.

-       "Hermes." Hades said while standing up.

-       "Hades...I have some...news, from Olympus." Hermes said with a sad voice.

Kore looked at Hermes worried; she saw Hades uncomfortable rough face. Hermes told Hades and Kore everything Zeus told him to.

-       "I know...Hades, I know, but Demeter is going mad up there. The lands are not fertile, the earth is not producing, and people are starving. She unleashed winter at this time of year. People will die soon...they are not prepared." Hermes said.

-       "But wait...maybe she thinks I'm not happy...tell her I'm happy here." Kore said distressed.

-       "Kid...you really don't know your mother..." Hades uttered.

-       "There's something we can figure...right?" She said looking at Hermes.

-       "You have til' sunset to return to the garden...Zeus commands." Hermes said with a sad face.

-       "NO! I won't!" She yelled.

-       "She'll be there..." Hades said with a serious face.

Hermes quickly vanished. Kore turned to look at Hades surprised.

-       "What do you mean?" She asked Hades angrily. "Aren't you going to fight for me? Is that easy for you? Even after last night?" She pushed him. "If Zeus sends you another wife you'll just take her?" She continued pushing him. "Fight for me!" She screamed while shedding some tears.

Hades embraced her in his arms while she fought to break free from his arms, crying.

-       "Shh..." He consoled her. "You know what Zeus will do if we disobey him. I will not unleash a divine war here." He said. "We will have half of the years together...for eternity..." He said while holding his anger in.

She put her arms around him, holding him tight.

-       "I need you." She said crying.

-       "You don't, you'll be fine. We'll see each other again, Kore." He said.

He hugged her tighter, while anger flowed through his body. He knew that having her half a year was better than not having her at all.  He knew she would be fine, that she didn't needed him. He didn't knew if he was going to be okay though...since the one that needed her was him...
