Hunter's POV
After a well deserved run from having a very long day. I found the tree with my change of clothes. Shifted and dressed before walking into the clearing that would take me back to the pack house.
I stopped in the middle of the clearing, looking up at the sky. It's hard to believe that nearly a month has passed. My mind again wonders to my mate. There's not a minute that passes where I don't think of her.
As busy as we've been, trying to find and track down everyone's pack that came back with the group we rescued, not to mention Ryder is going to be heading home again soon. Poor guy has been going back and forth this whole month. But she's still there, just like she has been every day since.
Mute. As I take in all the stars and now appearing moon, I start wondering who she really is. What's her name. What does she look like under that forced mask. What does she look and sound like when she smiles and laughs. I bet she's beautiful, just like the sky is tonight. What would it be like looking her in the eyes and hearing her say my name. The girls say she's mute, but they have admitted to hearing her once. Maybe she will speak with me. Maybe I can get her to say my name. Even if it's just once. I hope I get the chance to make her smile, if I ever get the chance, I'll make sure she smiles all the time.
I lose myself in the thoughts of my mate. When a high pitched, rather annoying voice catches my ears.
"Hey Hunter. You're looking a bit lost. How about I help you find your way back?" I internally growl. Vivienne. The Alpha's daughter from the Grey Mount pack. She came with a few pack members and her father to come pick up one of their members that was rescued.
"I'm fine. Thank you, Vivienne." I keep it short as I move towards the pack house. Unfortunately she followed. I made sure my strides to the house were long as to cut my torture by half. She was practically running beside me to keep up, however, that didn't stop her from running her mouth. I grunted in response to all her ramblings. To be honest I have no idea what she was saying, I wasn't listening. I just wanted to get away from her without being rude. I didn't need to entertain pleasantries for any alliance purposes but that didn't mean I had to be completely rude. Her father needed us more than we needed him and he knew that.
Once I made it to the house I bluntly excused myself and headed to my bedroom. The only safe haven I have from her in my entire house.
I cleaned myself up and headed straight for my bed. I wasn't hungry but I was less interested in trying to hold up unnecessary conversations. I was tired and not in the mood.
It didn't take me long before sleep came. As soon as it did. My dreams were filled with a myriad of strange and unnervinging images. The dream took me to a forest close to a lake. I could see a beautiful woman and her child having a pic nic and the little girl was running around carefree, chasing butterflies and laughing at everything. Her laughter was so infectious I found myself smiling and laughing along with her. She was so adorable, with her thick wavy, blue black hair flying around her. She had a deep tanned olive complexion with bright pink cheeks. Her eyes were just as bright as her cheeks but they were an amazing turquoise colour. She would be completely heart-breakingly, gorgeous when she grows up, I was thinking to myself. I hadn't noticed that her mother had moved to stand next to me as I was captivated by her daughter.
She cleared her throat. I jerked my head realising I had been staring at the little girl. I must have looked like a creep of epic proportions.
I was quick to apologies to the mother for staring and I dropped my eyes in utter embarrassment and shame.
To my surprise the mother started laughing. Her laughter made me raise my eyes to her questioningly. That's when I got to look at the woman, I mean really look at her and she was just as stunning as the young girl. Not looking alike but just as beautiful.
"Why should you apologies for staring at someone I made you for?" She politely states. Confusion took over my features.
"I apologize, but I don't understand." I gave her a look that made her continue.
"Hunter." She points to the little girl. "I need you to watch. Say nothing. Do nothing. Just watch. Please. I will explain but I need you to see this."
The woman goes back into the scenery and takes a seat on the pic nic blanket. The little girl stops chasing butterflies and runs to her.
I couldn't hear them speak but I see the little girl hugs her mother tightly. She starts crying and shaking. The woman pulls her daughter away from her and says something, tapping a finger over her heart as the little girl sits on her lap. I didn't like the way this whole scene was going. It made me anxious. The growling I could hear. It was unmistakable. Two wolves were growling at the mother and daughter. Then a hunter appeared with a shotgun. He raised it. I so badly wanted to run forward and stop what I could see was going to happen but I was stopped by the loud reverberating bang. The beautiful woman dropped to her side. The little girl frantically shaking her trying to wake her. The confusion, panic and pure terror on the little girl's face was heart breaking. I watched as the filthy man grabbed the little girl. I ran forward shouting. But the scene vanished right in front of me.
I dropped to my knees, frustrated and angry, my screams and growls came out as one and filled my ears.
A hand touched my shoulder comfortingly. The angelic voice of the little girls mother started talking again. I looked up. Her face. Goddess, she was even more beautiful.
"Hunter. She might have run from you but you need to know, I will bring her back." My head was running in all directions, trying very hard to connect the dots placed in front of me, but I was finding it difficult.
This beautiful woman could see my battle.
" You wanted to know what she sounded like laughing and I needed to show you where she came from and who she really is. She is my daughter, Hunter. I made you just for her. You are destined mates. My daughter you met in the hands of those gorish hunters is not who she is. She ran from you because I made her run from you. There was something I needed her to do. Someone else I needed her to meet before she could be yours." She looked at me hoping to find an ounce of understanding in my eyes.
" Mute. " I said connecting a few of the dots.
The woman standing beside me laughs." Her name is Madison. But I believe you met Miakoda the day you found her."
"Madison." I said listening to how her name sounded on my tongue. My head then snapped to the woman. "Who are you?" I questioned in a whisper.
"My name is Selene." My eyes widened and I instinctively bowed my head.
She brought my attention back to her. "Please, Hunter. Your brother is on his way and I will need to speak with both of you. Until he gets here, I need you to know, that there is and will never be anyone else for my daughter. Don't ever doubt yourself."
As she finished saying that my brother walks into my dream. We both look at each other, surprised at being in each other's dreams.
The beautiful woman laughs.
" Aaah Ryder, long time no see. " I see him smile, bow his head and greet her back. He knew her?
"It's good to have you back Selene." He says with the utmost respect.
"Indeed. One day it will be under better circumstances." She smiles but it doesn't reach her eyes.
"Now," She started. "It's time I explain everything to you, so you can be prepared for what's coming. You are my strongest warriors... Until Madison and Miakoda are fully healed." Selene tells us what's coming and where it all stems from. We were right, well, Ryder was. He knew his history. He needed to, being king.
" Before I leave you. Hunter... " Selene turned to me." The power that lies within Madison, needs love to grow. She might have a teacher now but she still needs your love." Selene didn't wait for my response before a bright light seemed to swollow her and she was gone. I turned to look at Ryder but he was also gone. Our dream connection vanishing as Selene had.
I stood there, in the midst of a blank dream... Thinking of her... Again.
My Madison.
