Mates

Madison's POV

It was actually really good to see Andrea again. Being able to give her a hug to confirm she was doing well meant the world to me.

As we pulled apart I noticed that Agatha and Cassandra weren't there. I hope they're ok too, I'm sure I will get to see them. Tom had said they were all here.

I smiled at Andrea and the name she had just called me. They really must think I'm a mute. I chuckle internally. They're going to have to keep thinking that for now, it's not time for me to speak up just yet.

In my periferal I can see Tom standing there. His demeanor a bit strange. I turn my head to see if he's OK and I see how tense he is with a look of disbelief written all over his features. His eyes fixed on something.

I can't help but follow his gaze which seemed to be fixed on a woman. She's naturally beautiful, with long, soft, light almost grey, blonde hair framing her face, which was flushed with colour. Her eyes were shining with some sort of emotions I recognized in Hunter's eyes when he looked at me. I noticed other similarities between her and Hunter, so they must be family. She was however returning Tom's stare. As I was getting lost in the similarities between her and Hunter I hear a shaky whisper from next to me. It came from Tom, which made me turn in confusion.

"Mate." He had said.

I stare at Tom and watched his disbelief fade from his face and saw the same emotions from the woman's face take over his.

My mind watched in slow motion as Tom stepped forward, towards the woman as she stepped towards him. There seemed to be an unseen force pulling the two of them closer and closer until they were in arms reach of each other. Tom stretched out his arms, placing his hands on the sides of her arms, just staring at her. Her arms reached out and her hands came to rest on his large chest. She, too, staring at him. Their foreheads leaning into each other until they met. Both of them seemed to be breathing a little harder and an invisible bubble swallowed them making them clearly oblivious to everyone else around them. Each of them mirroring each other's feelings of completion.

Apart from Tom saying the word mate, I had no idea what was happening but it some how looked magical. I stood there intrigued as my old man was turning into this gentle giant. I hadn't seen this side to him. He was soft with me but never like this. My heart swelled at the sight as I see a smile forming on his lips. I was in total awe.

I snapped out of my slow motion bubble when the other people around me started squealing and laughing with delight and they encircled the two, handing out back pats and hugs.  Now I was lost. I didn't understand as to what was happening, frozen in the place I had been standing in, since Andrea's hug. My thoughts changed and started twisting in my chest.

For what ever reason, I couldn't move. No matter how hard I told myself to, I just couldn't. Maybe I was scared. Selene had told me about what happens when mates find each other. The gravitational pull and glue keeping the two together. How they get completely lost within each other. Becoming each other's life force and drive. The pain they would feel if they were apart. The longing they would feel for each other.

Tom and this woman were mates...

Does this mean that I would have to go back to the cabin, alone?  Would my newly found father leave me and forget about me? Would I now be pushed aside as if I never existed to him? What was to become of the bond we had formed with each other? The only man I trusted. The only person I could speak freely to and be myself with. My friend. My father.

"He looks so happy Maddy. Look at him."  I heard Miakoda say in my head. And I did. I looked at Tom, who seemed to be glowing with happiness. As was the woman. I couldn't be anything but happy for him, even if I had to lose him. I would survive. I always did for some or other reason. This would be no different. He meant enough to me to be happy for him. So I smiled widely but still, I couldn't move. So I just stood there, away from the circle and smiled.
