Hunter's rejection took everyone by total surprise.
The pain emitted from those few words he spoke, shook the very grown they all stood on.
His friends and family watched on as he grabs at his chest in the severing pain of his mate bond and as Madison walked back inside seemingly unphased.
Vivienne had been too busy staring smugly at Madison walking off to even notice that Hunter was now buckled over and dropping to the ground.
Ryder was the first one to reach him, holding him up in the midst of his heart attack. Logan and Michael were next by his side.
"We need to get him inside." Ryder ordered, finally catching Vivienne's attention.
"Take him to our room. I'll make sure he's ok." She spurts with enthusiasm.
The three men carry his almost lifeless body through the house to his bedroom and lay him down on top of his covers. His eyes were now shut and his breathing erratic. His body was shaking in fits of anguish. The friends now surrounding his bed, some highly pissed off at him, almost agreeing with the amount of pain he was going through and some becoming fearful with sympathy.
Vivienne seeing the emotional divide between them, storms out the room, now is her chance. Her chance to get rid of her obstacle and take what she wants, noticed and followed by Logan, Merrick as well as Ryder, heading for the guest room, Brooklyn and Rayne still shared. Without the politeness of knocking she barges through the doors already screaming Madison's name.
Brooklyn and Rayne jump at the intrusion and Madison simply turns to view the commotion walking in.
"You Bitch! I want you gone from this territory before I have you dragged down to the dungeons. You are no longer welcome here." The blonde screeches out, standing over Madison who was seated on the floor in front of Rayne.
Rayne immediately bursts out crying at the pitch of this blonde woman screaming at her best friend.
Madison turns to Rayne and places a gentle hand on her arm and winks at her. Then turns to Brook to comfort her daughter. She slowly rises to her feet, turns and steps towards Vivienne. Miakoda wanting a piece of the prevailing action takes over making Vivienne stare into her bright green eyes.
Miakoda quicker than a blink has her hand clutching Vivienne's throat, restricting her air way. Making her splutter and gasp for air. She lifts her arm until Vivienne's feet are no longer gracing the ground, Vivienne's eyes widening with fear. Miakoda brings her dangling body right up to her to whisper into her ear.
"Don't make threats you can't see though." Miakoda hisses into her ear.
A firm reassuring hand grips Miakoda's shoulder.
"Mia, it's ok. Let her go. She has no authority to ban you from our territory." Logan says gently.
Miakoda tears her eyes from Vivienne's fear strained ones and looks at Logan, who gently squeezes his grip on her shoulder. With a scowl she drops the coughing blonde to the floor and turns her attention back to Rayne, who is now being cradled by her mother.
Ryder moves around Logan, bending over and yanks Vivienne off the floor. Michael moves to his side and grabs Vivienne's free arm, making sure she goes nowhere.
Logan looks over at her now securely between Ryder and Michael.
"You! You are not Luna of this pack and while Hunter is unwell, I give the orders around here. Not you. Do I make myself clear?" He's now towering over her shaking frame, knowing full well Hunter is not there to protect her.
Ryder tightens his shackle of a hand around her arm and so does Michael.
" For over stepping your boundaries and threatening a family member I think you should be the one who gets locked up." Ryder says ever so pleased that Logan indeed knows how to step into his position as Beta.
"Agreed." Says Logan staring daggers at her. "Take her to her room and have someone posted at her door." He ends.
As they drag her out of Brook and Rayne's room, she screams out her threats of what would happen when Hunter wakes up. The men let her scream and bang on the now locked door. Michael orders one of the warriors to stay posted and report on everything he hears.
With Vivienne now safely locked away they make their way back to Hunter's room where they see Agatha dropping a mixture of liquids into his mouth.
"Now, let's leave him to rest." She states as she starts packing her arsenal of viles away.
The family leave his room and heads back to the living room. No-one knowing quite what to say. Shock and hurt still evidently hanging on their brows.
After a few rounds of coffee have been had, Ryder returns to his brother's bedroom while everyone else seems to pitter out the house to busy themselves in wait.
Ryder's POV
Before going into my brother's room I first stop at the room my sister is in. I needed to know they were OK and had settled down.
I quietly open the door and peer in. Rayne is still cradled in Brooks arms, sleeping. While Brook gently strokes her hair. Madison is no longer there. I frown, trying to remember when she left. I hadn't even noticed. I retreat, closing the door and head to Hunter.
Just as quietly I open his door to see the room has darkened with the curtains drawn shut. I walk in and seat myself in the closest chair to his bed.
Looking at his still body I couldn't help but mill over what had just happened.
I couldn't bring myself to believe that he could have brought himself to rejected Madison so easily. And for what? He had no point to prove other than to that goddess awful bitch. He's been through so much, fought so hard for her, just to throw it away like that. She must have known it was coming and prepared herself for it, because she hadn't even flinched at his words. I saw nothing on her face nor in her eyes. He would need to do a whole lot of begging to make things right with her, when and if he ever comes to his senses again.
My hands found my face and rubbed in rough, frustration.
I still don't understand. He was so happy just a few days ago. How could it all go to hell so quickly?
My thoughts go back to Vivienne. That woman is beyond evil. She so badly wants to be Luna of this pack, yet, she makes sure that she disrespect as many members as possible. At the end of the day Hunter has always run this pack with everyone having a say. If she fucks that up, she won't even have a pack to be Luna of. Does she not know that? Not only that, she's pissing off royalty. I roll my eyes. Playing with fire she knows nothing about. How ignorant and arrogent can one person be?
My eyes look over to my brother again. How the hell could he let this happen? His pack is losing faith in him. His friends are distancing themselves from him, convinced that he's gone mad. He's just rejected his mate. What the fuck is he doing to himself? For a woman who's not even his mate?
This one woman has managed to destroy a man, a mate bond, a pack and a family... I close my eyes with my hands once again covering my face.
"Selene." I start off. "I need your help. We need your help." I couldn't resist the urge to ask her. This all seemed way beyond even me. There is just too much pain this time. Something needs to happen before it's too late. Before everyone is too broken.
A war is evident. If we can't fix this now. We are all doomed.
