Madison's POV

I'm sitting on my bed, my back leaning against the wall. My legs pulled up to my chest. One arm wrapped around my knees protectively while my other elbow rests on my knee. A finger, stiff in my mouth as my teeth subconciously rips at my nail. My eyes are fixed, not blinking, on nothing in particular, however, my mind is racing at a million miles a second. My adrenaline levels, increasing in my blood stream, making every muscle in my body tense.

I've been listening to everything everyone has been talking about for the last 3 days and apparently today is the day. Andrea is expecting her pack to be outside the fense. Cassandra and Agatha are wanting to break out with her. Dragging me along with them. What about the others? Will they break them out too? They all seem so hopeful. Why do they think life on the outside is any better? At least being in here the rogues leave you alone. Wish I could say the same for the hunters but I guess you need to choose your devils. If what I've seen coming through those big doors.... My eyes, out of reflex, shoot over to look at the heavy, double, wooden doors at the end of the corridor of cages. Then again the outside is filled with just as many evil people as there are in here.... Right?

What do I think of all this? What am I supposed to think of all this? I'm not sure if you can fully rely on others. I couldn't rely on Selene to protect me, now that I think about it. She knew something was going to happen that day. Her tears. That's what gave her away. She didn't even warn me.

My birthday of all days.

I roll my eyes. Today is my birthday. Does it even make a difference anymore?

I couldn't rely on Chris either, as semi decent as he once was, he turned on me the second he saw me heal.

I change my attack to another finger nail as I've seemed to have run out of nail on my pointing finger. To someone watching me I probably looked like some crazy girl with one hell of a nervous disorder. Jittery, tense, on edge and on the verge of flight.

Over the years I've learned the hard way to keep my mouth shut. That hasn't helped me in trying to save some of these beings from my fate though. I roll my eyes annoyed at myself. I don't see the point in that either. Not that I got thanked for taking someone else's torture for the day. Like what do I want them to say? "Oh, yeah, thanks for taking my time on the slab and being ripped open for me. You're a pal..." My eyes are starting to get sore with the amount of eye rolls I pull. I try and refocus my dizzying thoughts for what is being anticipated for today. Spacifically today. Focus, Madison, I encourage myself. My body practically shaking where I sit.

If Andrea's pack is planning on doing a rescue then they're gonna need help. Inside help. Maybe we can cause some sort of distraction here on the inside. An irritational nag questions me. Would you really go with them?

I pull my hand out my mouth and box the side of my head. Hard. Focus! My thumb nail goes back between my teeth.

How? How can we get these assholes to take us seriously enough to create a distraction.

Being my birthday I'm also hoping they actually skip my cage for a change. I've already fully healed from the other day's ordeal. I remove my thumb from my mouth again and rub my face. Crusts of dried blood fall from my face as I rub. I inwardly chuckle. Imagine Andrea's packs reaction to seeing me. I smirk. Thoughts of a dried out, bloodied up, apocalyptic zombie springs to mind. I must look as scary as all hell.

My thoughts are shattered by the siren that goes off. I clamp my hands over my ears. It's announcing that the slop they throw at us through our cages is on its way. I look around as all the fake sleeping bodies around me tense and shoot up into a sitting position. Here, everyone has bags. Eye bags. Some black, some purple, some dark brown, some just a shade darker than their own completions, those are the new comers. If they get to leave today then I will own my jealousy.

Seconds later the bright clinical lights flick on, making most of the people moan. I squint and shade my eyes. I hadn't even realise how dark it was still, until those lights were flipped on. I scowel. Fuck! I internally curse and jerk like I have tourettes. That means it's closer to the time someone gets dragged out.

The usual woman comes bursting through the door with the slop. Everyone drops their eyes and just waits for the hefty woman to be done. She exits shortly after littering our cage floors with Martin's morning slop. I scowel again.

My irritation today is on an all time high.

Why? I don't know. I've never been this irritated before. It feels like everything is too loud. The lights are too bright. The smell of everything is too strong.

Looking at the slop on my floor. Soggy.........
Lumpy......
Slimy....
Beige...
My nose scrunches up and I gag.

Another gag.

Wtf!

My head suddenly spins. My stomach tightens. My stomach tries to hurl up what it doesn't have in it. I try holding back the bile, not knowing when I'd get liquid down my throat again. Conservation. Fuck. "This is going to bring unwanted attention." Is what I think as I feel my eyes roll into the back of my head and I black out.

Andrea's POV

After that nasty woman left I hear someone gagging. I look up and look around when I notice Mute holding her stomach with her one arm and her other hand over her mouth. She looks pale. Sickly pale. I run to the side of my cage that touches hers and try to catch her attention. Shit! Shit! She's got to hang in there. My pack will be here soon. I can feel Dakota's mind links are getting stronger.

I stretch my hand through my cage and into hers and call out to her.

"Mute!" It came out as a mere whisper at first.

"Mute! " I say a bit louder. Catching Cassandra and Agatha's attention. They too, looking on with concern etched into their faces.

"Please Mute! Not today, please stay with us. Mute!" I start saying frantically. Looking over to the other two for support.

Both Cassandra and Agatha look beyond worried. She can't die today. Before either one of them can open their mouths, the big doors once again swing open. Shit! If they see Mute on the floor, she's sure to be the one taken. These people have no scruples, they WILL kick someone when they're down.

My thoughts weren't even cold when that grotesque, pig of a man halts in front of Mutes cage. He didn't even look at any other cage which means he was already set on taking her. As if having being dragged out three days ago wasn't enough.

"Well now, look at this..." He says ever so smoothly. A wide, joyful smile plastered on his face. He stands back and looks at all of us with his hands motioning towards Mute's cage as if he was bragging about his kid that's just won a prize. He looks so pleased with himself. Like he'd achieved something. Oh no! What did they do to her yesterday. We all saw her state when she was dragged back in. This time we all thought she was dead. Her eyes were closed and not wilfully clamped shut. She was limp. We didn't even see any tears. She lay on the floor of her cage where they threw her for hours. Usually it only took her a couple of minutes to be completely ok, like nothing had happened. Even Agatha stepped in to see if she could help from her side of the corridor.

"Seems we might get some answers today." He rubs his hands together with glee. Typical of his character... Insane, narsassistic, psychopath, probably with an unhealthy dose of boarderline personality disorder too boot.

He orders for someone to open her cage and barks for one of his helpers to drag her out. No-one has the strength to come to her aid, as usual. Guilt washes over me. How many times has she stood up for me? Anger rises up in me but it's too late, they've already left with her. I look over at Cassandra. My face hardened.

"We. are. NOT. leaving her here!" I hiss at her through clenched teeth. She doesn't say anything but just nods. She turns her head to look at Agatha. Agatha nods too.

Just then a mind link from Dakota comes through.

"What happened Andi? I can feel your anger." She states. So loudly. So clearly. She must be close.

"They took Mute." I reply stiffly.

"Well, I can see the compound from where we are. Give us about 10 mins to all get into position. 10 mins Andi! Be ready." She ends the mind link. I rush over to edge of my cage.

"9 mins ladies" Is all I say to make the vamp and the witch ready to fight.
