Chapter 3_Part 2

Taro was laying on the bed,

cuddling with Yutio, who was fast asleep.

"Oh, hi Akemi," Taro greeted the shorter boy, voice just as scritchy as ever.

"Hey," Akemi replied, "I brought breakfast, I didn't know if you guys were gonna go to the cafeteria or what so, y'know,"

"Yeah, thanks," The witch gestured to the tray by the bed with his head. Akemi set the bagel plate down and stood back, rocking a bit awkwardly.

"So... Are you okay?" The engineer asked. Taro sighed. He hesitated for a while, glancing down at Yutio, who was tucked under his left arm, clutching to his thin torso like letting go would kill them. Taro held the 4' 11'' teen a little tighter.

"...Yeah," He replied finally with a sad smile, "I'll be fine," Akemi nodded thankfully. Taro swallowed, touching a hand to his throat.

"Oh, does your throat hurt?" Akemi asked, getting very mother hen-ish almost instantly. Taro chuckled, flashing his normal half-smile.

"No more than usual," He replied, "Don't worry, my voice is typically this scratchy and sexy," That caught Akemi off guard, making him blush a bit and laugh nervously. Taro got a genuine laugh out of that, "Really, it's normal,"

"Yeah, haha," Akemi said, "Is your voice naturally like that? Genuine question," Taro's face solemnized a little.

"...Y'know, my mom used to tell me every time I lied to her, 'People usually only ask questions when they already know the answer'," The witch said. Akemi's eyes widened. He hadn't known the answer, but Taro was right, he could guess.

"Oh..." Akemi said. A hand made its way to his mouth. Taro smiled sadly again.

"Yep. Roughly eight years of screaming... Heh. 'Roughly'," Akemi's eyes were trained on the fairly indifferent expression of the taller boy.

"I-I don't understand... How are you so okay talking about this?" The engineer asked.

"I dunno, I guess I'm just that used to it..." Despite that, Taro's eyes started watering, "It's... It's scary, Akemi. It was so fucked up. Ahaki... She enjoyed it. She helped him do this shit to me and..." Taro put a hand over his uncovered light blue eye, his lanky body beginning to shake, "I still miss her. I can't fucking help it,"

Akemi went to put a hand on his shoulder, but was surprised by Yutio stirring, and jumped back. The small teen rubbed their eye, this one was pinkish-red, and yawned.

"Hmm?" Yutio said, drowsiness laced in their voice. Taro noticed them up and quickly, but subtly, scrubbed at his eyes.

"Morning," He greeted them with a smile. They blushed and sat up, knocking his arm off of themself.

"...oh! G-good m-m-morning Akemi," Yutio said upon spying the boy hanging around the door. He jumped and waved while Yutio brushed their hair back over their eyes.

"Hi," Akemi said back. He then made a realization and grabbed the plate off the tray, "I uh, I made bagels. I didn't know if you guys had any allergies or what you liked so I kind of made one of each... I guess I didn't think that you might not even like bagels so that was kind of poor planning on my part--"

"It's cool dude," Taro said, picking up the raisin-cinnamon one, "I'm not picky," Yutio shook their head.

"I-I'm not hungry..." They said quietly. Akemi nodded.

"Oh okay! I'll just leave these for you two then," He set the try back down and left, hearing a little bit of their conversation on the way down the hall.

"So which one do you actually want?"

"P-plain please..."
