-Chapter 1_Trial-
Once in the multipurpose room, the students took places behind podiums with their names that had seemingly come out of the floor.
"Multipurpose is definitely the word for it," Taro said, standing behind his black, almost gothically designed one. Akemi nodded, gazing in wonder at his own podium, which was decorated with pieces of metal and screws.
"Y'know, maybe now's not the time to joke around," Tatsuya slighted at Taro, who just shrugged. Tatsuya's podium was decorated with papers and sticky notes. Weird for the Ultimate Delinquent.
"Usually I wouldn't directly agree with him, but yeah Tatsuya's right. We should be focused on the debate, not joking around," Touro added from his podium next to his brother's. It looked pretty beaten up, with nails sticking out of the wood and paint peeling on the sides.
"I concur," Ahaki said, stepping up to her pure white one, "We must discuss whom among us committed this heinous sin, and see to it that they are punished not just physically, but also in the eyes of God so that we as the temporary passers of judgment may be blessed,"
"Well said," a new voice spoke. It was quite proper sounding, not a hint of sass or anything of the sort. It was how you'd expect scientists to speak. Akemi looked to the source to find it was Kotoba, typing at what seemed to be a typewriter on the top of his plain, paper-covered podium. Kotoba looked up briefly, and then back down, "I can see your confusion so I'll explain. This machine is a text-to-speech generator. I am mute, so this the easiest way to communicate my thoughts. And yes, this is what I actually sound like,"
"How do you know what you sound like if you're mute?" Usagi said with a swish of sass from her very sports-themed podium. Koto narrowed his eyes at her.
"Because I can in fact speak, I just choose not to," He replied.
"Okay but if your mute by choice why don't you just choose to be normal so this is done easier?" She shot back.
"No. I communicate best through unspoken words, truest of an author of my stature, or a poet of the same skill,"
"IF YOU GUYS ARE DONE, WHY DON'T WE TALK ABOUT THE MURDER," Orochi said loudly. This caught Daichi's attention.
"Oh I'm sorry, are they boring you?" She said, louder than he had spoken. Orochi glared at her, and the graffiti artist returned it.
"Uh, m-m-m-maybe we d-d-don't fight wh-when our lives are o-o-on the l-line?" Yutio's voice could barely be heard.
"Yutio's right," Sayori said, "We have to get started on the case. And I apologize in advance, I'm not gonna be much help,"
"Oh please don't tell me you're opting out too," Akemi begged the ginger girl. She turned in his direction, answering his question with just a look.
"No, I just never saw the crime scene. I'm blind... uh... Taro?" She said.
"N-no, it's Akemi. And don't worry, I'm about to recap the scene anyways," Akemi replied. Sayori nodded. The engineer turned back to the whole circle of students, "Okay, so here's what we know. Anon's body was found a little bit after we all met in here for the first time. She was drowned but also stabbed in the stomach with a broom handle before she died. After drowning her, the killer left the sink on and poured bleach on the ground. Am I missing anything?" Akemi explained. Usagi piped up.
"Uh yeah, the part where miss spray paint's the killer!" she pointed at Daichi accusingly.
"Oh yeah? Why don't you and your stupid braids prove it!" Daichi yelled back. Usagi glared at her.
