-Chapter 1_Part 1-

"Welcome students of Hope's Peak!" The same voice from the loudspeaker came from the multipurpose room once the two entered, "I hope you had no trouble getting here this fine morning! Hehe, hope... I was originally planning to trigger the rooms to fill with water and hide the keys all escape-room-like, buuuuut that was too much work. Plus, some of you weren't even awake yet! And that would be a terrible disadvantage, and I'm not playing favorites until at least the second death!"

Akemi stared at the podium at the front of the room in confusion. Where's the person connected to that voice? What do they mean, the second death? What's going on?

As if to answer his questions, within the blink of an eye, a small figure popped out from behind the podium and flipped on top of it. It was a small bear, no taller than a four-year-old. It was split down the middle, black and white on either side, but the sides swapped every few seconds as if the stuffed animal was made from blinking LED lights.

"Now I know what you're all thinking," The voice played again, seemingly from the bear on the podium, "'Where's that voice that coming from? What do they mean? What's happening? Why is that bear so devilishly handsome?' Worry not fair children, most of those will be answered in due time. For now," The bear stood, bowing dramatically, "I should introduce myself. I am Monokuma, the headmaster of this fine institution!" A snapping noise directed the crowd of teens' attention to the front of themselves, where a very tall kid was in fact snapping his fingers. They waved their hands at 'Monokuma' in a very direct fashion, to which the bear cocked its head in confusion. A peppy kid in the back raised their hand frantically.

"Oh oh oh! I know what he's saying!" They said. Monokuma looked back at them.

"Yes, you young lady, get up here and translate would ya?" he said, less asking and more demanding. The kid nodded and rushed to the front, their black dress flowing neatly in the breeze they left behind.

"He says 'And what exactly is this fine institution?'." She said, putting on a matter-of-fact tone for the tall kid's line that made them roll their only unpatched eye. Monokuma's creepy shark-toothed grin seemed to widen.

"A fine question my boy," He said, "A fine one, but a stupid one too! Obviously, if ya' couldn't tell by the decoration and your own damn memory, this is Hope's Peak Academy!"

Frantic gasps and whispers filled the large room, making Monokuma growl. He whistled and redirected everyone's attention.

"Did I say you could talk among yourselves? NO! SO SHUT IT! I have to explain the rules before you can go yip-yappin' and plannin'!"

"'Rules? What rules?'" The girl in the black dress translated for the tall boy again. Monokuma groaned like it was his twenty-fifth time explaining.

"The rules for the killing game obviously!!" The bear yelled. The whispers returned, even Luci turning to Akemi in fear.

"Wh-what does he mean, killing game?" she said panicked. Akemi shrugged.

"If I had to guess, nothing good," He responded.

"WILL YOU STOP TALKING!?" Monokuma barked, "God! Kids these days..."

"Hehehehe, I know what he means~" A sinister, but small voice leaked out of the crowd. People of all shapes and sizes moved out of the way for a somewhat short kid to walk to the front. He had messy, navy blue hair, marks all over his pale arms, and a whole ass umbrella over his shoulder. The kid rocked on his heels at the front of the crowd, like a child waiting for candy, "Haven't any of you seen Danganronpa?"

"Y-y-you m-mean the TV show?" a timid voice replied, "I-I-I thought they h-h-hired p-p-professionals for that..." Akemi looked for the source of the voice to see a tiny kid, who was peeking at the creepy kid through their light purple hair.

"Hehehehe~ Apparently not..." The creepy kid said. They gave their umbrella a little spin, "So, who wants to explain, hm? If no one else does, I will~" A pale hand raised out of the crowd.

"We can't leave unless we kill someone and get through the class trial without getting caught. If ya' get caught ya' die, am I missin' anything?" an annoyed-looking ginger boy called. He turned to a similar-looking ginger boy for his last question, who shook their head and clutched their notebook closer.

Monokuma sighed angrily, "That's a very condensed version, emphasis on the 'dense'," he glared at the ginger boy, who growled in return, "But yes. So that brings us to the first part--"

"Ooooooh, a motive~!" The creepy kid said, cutting the bear off. Monokuma smacked the kid on the back of the head, pointing to the crowd.

"YOU! BACK WITH THE OTHERS!" He yelled. The kid only grinned wider, twirling his umbrella once again.

"Whatever you say, hehehehe~!" They then skipped to the back of the crowd. The girl in the black dress raised her hand nervously.

"WHAT?" Monokuma turned to her. She tapped the tips of her index fingers together, glancing away with uncertainty.

"Should I go back to?" She asked.

"NO! I can't for the life of me understand this rich-lookin' prick so you've gotta stay!" He said. The tall boy furrowed his brows, signing at the peppy girl.

"Uh, he says 'I'm mute you two-toned halligan. Clearly, you aren't very technologically advanced if you can't understand simple sign-language,'" The girl translated once again. Steam could've started pouring from the bear's ears at that point.

"UGH! YOU KIDS ARE INSUFFERABLE!" Monokuma yelled, "I GIVE UP!" He tossed a piece of paper to the girl and disappeared with an angry yell. The girl opened the paper, reading aloud.

"It says... 'The loved one you most miss awaits you in a setting of your choice for as long as you please if a killing takes place. If a killing does not take place, everyone you all just thought of will be publically executed for all students to see.' That's it," She pocketed the paper, "I guess that's the motive," She scratched her head awkwardly, putting on a fancy tone, "Y-you may now disperse at your leisure,"

"Meeting your loved ones, huh?" Luci said as she watched others group up and discuss things, "Well, I don't really miss anyone so you can trust I'm not killing anyone at least," Akemi smiled.

"Yeah, me neither. Though, I don't know about the others..." His gaze was drawn to a specific group, his urge to talk to them growing with each second. He turned to Luci, who seemed to have the same thought, "Should we... Go meet some people?" The green-haired girl smiled.

"Good idea, meet you in the room later?" She asked. He nodded and waved at her as he made his way to the group.

Who will we meet first?
