Nightmare took a sip of his tea as the rain beat against the large, teal and black stained windows. He loved the rain for many reasons. For one, it watered all his plants for him, which was nice; and for two, he loved the way it sounded.
The way the rain echoed throughout the castle was stunning, the white noise made it so easy to focus on his book, or on any work he was finishing. It was calming, relaxing, the way it pitter-pattered on the rooftop of his castle. Mesmerizing.
He finished the chapter he was on before Dream walked in. Dream was wearing a soft-looking bright yellow sweatshirt. It was covered in his golden blonde hair that refused to remove itself no matter how many times he would put it through the wash.
He hadn't worn it in a while as all the strands of hair were all fully blonde. He had dyed the tips of his hair black recently, it looked good. Nightmare would've preferred a teal, but he looked good in black.
Dream plopped himself down on a chair on the opposite side of the living room from Nightmare. The room was pretty big, housing a couch, a couple of chairs, a nice rug, and a wall of bookshelves all containing dystopia novels that Nightmare never really read, but needed a place to put.
It was cozy, but no one ever relaxed in it. The lack of technology kept all of the members of his gang away. Only Horror occupied the space, and even then, it was to get away from Dust and Killer.
Dream sunk into his sweatshirt, hiding away in the hoodie. He was staring off into space, not looking at anything in particular. Nightmare raised an eyebrow and set the cup full of tea down on a coaster. This was odd. Dream was never this quiet.
"You alright over there?"
"Mmmhmm."
Nightmare eyed Dream for a moment longer before going back to his book. Weird, but he wasn't going to pry. He didn't feel anything particular coming off of him, so he assumed he was alright.
Dream was probably just seeking someone to be with on this beautiful night and Nightmare couldn't blame him.
Nightmare smiled softly as a roar of thunder slammed itself down on the castle, echoing throughout the halls. He loved the sound of thunder and lightning, with how powerful and unpredictable it was.
A sharp, looming sense of dread flew by his mind, almost echoing in his skull. Fear, anticipation...
Such a strong feeling. It was intense and deep-seated. It almost made him shutter.
But...why? Who was feeling this and what was causing it-?
Another strike of lightning, even louder thunder. The lights flickered slightly.
He squinted as he thought. There wasn't anyone he could think of that lightning would invoke such a reaction from.
His eyes widened, thoughts flickering wildly. He had to force back a smile. No...it couldn't be...unless...
He looked over to Dream. He was visibly shaking, refusing to make eye contact, keeping himself as close to himself as possible.
Nightmare grinned. What?
No...it couldn't be. Could it?
It had been YEARS, there's no way he could still be...
Nightmare didn't keep his eyes off Dream, watching him closely. He had to be sure. He put his book off to the side, if he was right, then this would be much more exciting than his story.
There was a sound of booming thunder, and then a bright flash of lightning a couple of seconds after.
Dream flinched and Nightmare could've sworn there was a whimper in there too. It was intoxicating, Dream's negativity, it felt so good.
