AMANDA'S POV
My Mom could see that I needed to be convinced more
"𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒆𝒈𝒃𝒖𝒍𝒂, I have a plan for that. You're going to get your degree, but we have to sit and talk about that and that's why I'm saying you should wait till we get to Nigeria first" ( don't worry )
You should trust your mother, she knows how important your education is to you - this was what my brain was telling me.
I nodded my head at her and wiped my face, I didn't even know when I started crying.
"Go and continue packing"
. . . .
"So we're never going to see you again?" Lisa was pouting her lips like a little child
"Don't say never ! I'll visit you guys again!" If I get the money that is, I say to myself
"We have Skype, I don't know why you guys are over reacting" John has always been the positive one in our little group
"hmmm so you're not gonna miss me ?" I place my hand on my chest like I've been hurt there
"He's gonna miss you more trust me ! The moment you leave here he's gonna cry so hard and scream; " Amy oh my sweet Amy come back to me"
I laugh at their little argument and notice that John's cheeks have changed to a light pink. He was blushing!
"I'll miss having you two around, I can't believe my Mom is still making us do this"
"We will miss that too"
I met Lisa and John the second year after we moved here. They were the new neighbors and I was excited about meeting them because they were my age mates. I was seven then. I didn't know they were twins until I attended one of their birthday parties. We became tight ever since and they were like the siblings I never had.
"I'll FaceTime you guys, if it's possible"
"It is" John the smart one said
We hugged each other for almost 2 minutes, enjoying the warmth from our glued bodies. I tried not to cry, I don't know what I'm going to do without them, they're literally my only friends. I thought about how I knew no one in Nigeria and how long it was going to take me to make new friends. I cleared that thought from my head and pushed it aside.
"Do you guys know who's going to stay in your house now?"
"No, my mom left that to the real estate lady to handle, I'm sure they're going to be nice, whoever they are"
"oooh, I hope they have a really cute daughter that John can crush on again"
"Stop it!!"
Ah, here comes the blush again.
I had a crush on John before but that was when we were young, really young. I pulled him closer and hugged him tightly.
"I'll miss having you around to advise me John and I'll miss your bear hugs so much"
John surprises me and gives me a kiss on my forehead.
"I'll miss that too"
After a lot of tears and promises to text and call each other, we got in to the car. It was really funny because we were all crying by the car when we were all still going to the airport together. John was driving and Lisa was going with him (of course).
We got to the airport 30 minutes before our flight took off.
"So now we say the real good bye right?"
"Right"
We hugged each other one more time, my Mom prayed for them and thanked them for being an important part of my life here. She even cried.
I watched them as they drove off, Lisa was still waving at me and crying. I was crying too. I stood there for two minutes, before taking a deep breath and waking into the airport to meet my mom.
"𝑶𝒎𝒂𝒍𝒊𝒄𝒉𝒂 𝒃𝒊𝒂 , show this nice lady your passport so we can proceed" ( beautiful girl, come here )
I removed my passport from my bag and for a second there I thought about pretending like I didn't have it at all but what's the point right ? Mom has already made up her mind.
I gave myself a mental boost and whispered to myself ;
"Let's do this"
