AMANDA' S POV
LAGOS, NIGERIA
2 pmOur flight to Nigeria took exactly 8 hours and 30 minutes. It was a very long flight and this was because of the weather. Once the pilot announced our arrival, I had an intensifying feeling of fear. I have no idea why I got so scared, maybe because I thought I was having a bad dream where I had to leave everything behind and go somewhere new, but no this isn't a dream. We're really here.
"Thank you lord for journey mercies" my mom whispered after we got our luggages together.
"So what now ?" I was afraid to ask this question because I was also afraid of her answer.
"Are we going to be staying in Lagos now" I looked at my mom with my arms crossed on my chest but my mom was laughing at me, her laughter was loud and captivating and annoying too
"Why're you laughing?"
"The way you said Lagos with your 𝒂𝒎𝒆𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒏𝒂 accent! It's so funny" (American)
Can you imagine?
"𝒏𝒏𝒆!! stop it , I'm being very serious!" (Mother)
"𝒏𝒅𝒐, don't you worry yourself. I have a plan. I didn't make us move all the way here without a plan. But for now, we have to eat something and rest. We are going to stay the night at a hotel and tomorrow we leave for Enugu" (sorry)
"Enugu ? Why Enugu?" I looked at her confused, why can't we stay in Lagos ? Isn't Lagos like the only place we can at least have a decent life ?
"We can start all over in Enugu too" my mother said as if she heard my thoughts.
"We're going to stay with your grandmother for a while before I figure out what do next"
"Grandma ?" I asked with a wide smile on my face. It's been so long since I saw her, sure we saw each other on Skype every week but I've really missed her.
"Yes your Grandma"
At least here's something to look forward to in this not so new country.

ENUGU STATE
NSUKKAThe drive to Enugu took 7 exhausting long hours. If we had gone by flight it would have been 1 hour and 47 minutes but mommy was trying to save money and she decided that we go by road, sort of like a road trip.
The roads were very bumpy and we had a flat tire once but the entire journey was surprisingly fun. I took a lot of pictures on my iPhone so I could send to Lisa and John.
When we got to Enugu we were greeted by a huge sign board that read ;
WELCOME TO ENUGU, THE CITY OF COAL
"Are we in Nsukka already?" I asked the driver
" 𝒏𝒐 𝒘𝒆 𝒏𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝑵𝒔𝒖𝒌𝒌𝒂 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒘𝒆 𝒈𝒐 𝒔𝒐𝒐𝒏 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉" (no we've not but we're almost there)
The driver was laughing, he has been doing that anytime I speak. He said my 𝒐𝒚𝒊𝒏𝒃𝒐 accent made everything funny but when he heard me speak Igbo his eyes were as wide as saucers. (American)
We arrived Nsukka an hour later and we were greeted by another sign board that read ;
WELCOME TO NSUKKA
