Autumn's watching TV while having instant noodles for dinner. Her parents aren't home, they're having dinner at some fancy restaurant with a few friends.
As she takes a sip of her water, the news starts playing. A woman on the TV is talking "Another boy has been brought to the hospital due to injuries. A middle-aged woman found him laying unconscious in an alley near Rue Bailleul, he has yet to regain consciousness. If you live in or pass by this part of Paris often, please be careful and avoid travelling alone. The police is currently investigating the case, but they haven't found anything yet." Autumn knows those attacks have been happening more recently lately. If she's going to be honest with herself, she's scared for whoever is causing it. The places of attacks aren't that far from where she lives after all.
She gets her phone out once again, wanting to text El, but ends up deleting the message and continues to watch the news by herself. There isn't that much news aside from the attacks. An old lady had called the police thinking there was a robber in her house, but it ended up being one of her cats. Jagged Stone, who has had his better-looking years, stated he will tour around Paris once again with his best songs and one new one he wrote with his son. And there's an inspection at the Eiffel Tower, meaning it won't open for at least a week.
When Autumn's finished eating, she does the dishes, makes sure all doors downstairs are locked and goes upstairs to get some sleep. While laying in bed, she has a small conversation with Tikki, and eventually falls asleep mid-sentence. Tikki hugs Autumn's cheek, telling her goodnight and lays down on her pillow to rest, too.
El gets woken up by a loud thud coming from upstairs, the attic. Being sleepy, she reaches for her phone to look at the time, but gets blinded by the light coming from the device. When she's used to it, she sees it's 3AM, making her wonder why her mother is still awake. Lila has warned her not to go to the attic, so she won't go there. But it's bugging her in some way.
"Plagg?" She whispers, Plagg comes flying towards her with some camembert in his little hands.
"What?" He asks while eating the cheese in one go.
"Nothing much, just wanted some company until I fall asleep again. I'm not used to sleeping on my own."
Plagg sits down on El's shoulder, showing her he'll stay while she falls asleep. El smiles, thanks him, and lays down again. All she has to do is go to sleep again. She hasn't had a good night sleep since she moved in, she didn't feel comfortable for some reason, but she knows it's probably because she never slept in a room all by herself before. It's a bit too silent. She can't hear the floor creaking when someone walks through the hall, she can't hear her roommates snoring, she can't hear the little ones crying, she can't hear anything, it's just too quiet.
"I could sing you a song before you go to sleep." Plagg says, not waiting for an answer "Camembert, stinky socks, I can sense you wherever you are." El starts laughing, petting Plagg's head with her index finger. Plagg stops singing and smiles at his owner. When she closes her eyes, he starts humming the song again, which puts El at ease. So she listens to it and slowly dozes off.
The next day, El wakes up rather early. She stays in bed for a while, not feeling the urge to move, but goes downstairs the moment she starts to feel hungry. She prepares breakfast for herself as well as her mom, but when she calls for her mother, there's no response. She then eats her breakfast by herself, having Plagg as her only company, and puts Lila's breakfast on the kitchen counter with a note saying she's going outside for a while. She takes her skateboard, some water and a small bag and leaves the house.
El didn't have any intention of going anywhere at first, but found her way to Autumn's house anyway. She doesn't even try to get in through the front door and, once again, climbs onto Autumn's balcony and knocks on her window. About a minute later, Autumn looks through the curtains and starts smiling, she opens the window "You know doors exist, right?"
"Doors? What are those?" El jokes.
"So why are you here this early?"
"I was bored and alone so I thought we could be bored and alone together."
"You know what, sure. Give me a minute, I'll be down soon." El nods and jumps down, waiting for Autumn while sitting on the sidewalk.
After about 5 minutes, Autumn meets up with El and they walk together for a bit. During their walk, El tells Autumn about her new mom and — even though she acts sort of mysterious at times — she's sweet and caring. Autumn still got a bad feeling about El's new mom, but won't say a thing until she's certain.
"Hey, can you teach me how to skate?" Autumn then asks to get the conversation to a different subject.
"What? I mean, sure."
While on their way to a skating park nearby, El explains the basics to Autumn. "Your right foot has to be up front and your left foot has to be at the back, but you also use that foot to get speed." She demonstrates how it works, making it seem easy.
When they arrive at a skating park, El hands her skateboard to Autumn. Autumn takes it and tries standing on it, but loses her balance almost immediately and falls down. El manages to catch her before she hits the ground and starts laughing.
"Shut up." Autumn says, but bursts out in laughter too. She then tries standing again, El helps her to make sure she doesn't fall off again. After five minutes, Autumn manages to keep her balance without El's help. She tries going forward, but loses her balance again, making El burst out in laughter again.
"C'mon. It's harder than it looks!" Autumn comes up with an excuse.
"I know, I know. Do you want to try again? Shithead" El says laughing.
"Not that again." Autumn responds, but starts laughing too. "And yes, I wanna try again." And so they try again, and fail again, and laugh again, and try again. During the afternoon, they get croissants at a bakery for lunch and El went past her house to get her guitar after that. They stay together, skating and playing the guitar until sundown. Then, Autumn goes back home and El goes too after that.
El's mother is downstairs now, preparing dinner. El sets the table to help and they eat. Lila asks what El's been doing all day, El explains in detail. El asks where Lila was this morning, but she doesn't give a response. When she asks about that night, Lila lies saying she woke up and had to go to the toilet. El believes her, for now, but something gets her a little curious. She might not be lying, but she's definitely hiding something.
