"Boo" Elmer jumped so high he almost dropped the cup he was holding as Bert laughed holding his chest laughing uncontrollably.

"Don't do that, you almost stopped my heart" Elmer complained continuing his journey to the kitchen.

"I saw you smiling from ear to ear, what happened?" Elmer smiled even more, after the conversation he has had with the king. It felt like someone he would connect with and it was amazing hearing him talk like that, the fact that death wouldn't have been in his mind if he birthed two children eased Elmer's mind and heart knowing that the king might not know that Elmer was his son too but he would have loved him the same.

"I had a conversation with the king" Elmer whispered not wanting anyone to hear "It felt amazing talking to him, I realized that I have never had a conversation to him ever since I arrived here"

"He is the nicest royal ever"

"Yeah, Ernest too don't forget him" Bert laughed

"He is my best friend of course I won't give him credit for being nice"

"Are you jealous of your best friend" Bert rolled his eyes with a huff when suddenly the entire castle went into panic mood "What is going on?" Elmer asked Looking at the people running. Cries were heard in a distance, people weeping.

"We need to go check it out" Bert suggested taking the tray out if Elmer's hands resting it down before pulling his hand following the cries "What is going on?" Bert asked the guards who were standing in the hall way looking sad, servants were weeping next to them.

"The king" one of the guards started "He is dead"

"What?" Both Elmer and Bert said in unison with wide eyes. Elmer had just talked to him only a few minutes ago, he hasn't even reached the kitchen and they are telling him that the king is dead.

"Your father and the rest are trying to find out what happened but it seems like it was poison" Bert didn't wait to hear more, he turned around to leave as Elmer followed not believing the news that was being told to him, it was impossible for the king to be dead, he seemed fine a while ago and how did he get poisoned in just a few minutes. Elmer followed Bert who seemed to be in thoughts as he made his way in the royal chambers, Elmer didn't care that he wasn't allowed in these parts.

They turned into the hall to fine Hattie, Della, Era, Ernest and other two men Elmer didn't know all standing outside the king's room. Bert ran straight to Ernest giving him a hug as Elmer walked to his aunt standing next to her ignoring the look Hattie was throwing at him "Am sorry, I still can't believe this" Elmer heard Bert say to Ernest while hugging him tighter. It became quiet again as they stood there waiting, it took a couple of minutes when the door finally opened with Proteus and a healer walked out.

"He drunk poison called aconite or well known as wolfsbane" Proteus voiced out through gritted teeth as Era started crying running over into Elmer's chest hugging him tightly as she cried. Proteus looked at the boy Era was hugging and the face was coming to mind, he was the boy his son spends most of his time with. When realisation of what was happening hit him Proteus just wanted to kill him "Era step away" Proteus ordered his eyes turning green.

"I want-" Proteus didn't want to hear it he lifted her with his magic putting her aside before taking Elmer by the neck getting him off of the ground.

"Dad" Bert called running over to his dad who is chocking Elmer "Dad, What- let go"

"Get out of this Bert" Proteus ordered applying more pleasure, now Della and Era are trying to pull him off of Elmer whose eyes have rolled in the back tears falling down, he was dying.

"Proteus enough" Ernest ordered, Proteus turned his head to the new king letting go of Elmer who fell down coughing struggling to get air back in his lungs with Bert and Della trying to help him "Why were you trying to kill him" Ernest has just lost his dad, he doesn't need any more corpse in the kingdom today.

"He killed the king" Proteus accused making everyone gasp staring at Elmer, Elmer's eyes were wide not believing he heard what Proteus had said.

Ernest glanced at Elmer then back to Proteus "That is a very big accusation Proteus, do you have evidence to back it up"

"The king was poisoned in his tea, he took the tea-"

"But I didn't make the tea" Elmer felt the need to defend himself, he was just the server, he didn't make the tea and he shouldn't be accused of something like this.

"Let him finish" Ernest said glancing back to Proteus telling him to finish.

"There are things I can't say out loud right now but the king had just told me something important right before his heart stopped" Proteus glanced at Elmer with anger that he is fighting to keep his magic in before he can destroy the boy "He had told me that Elmer met someone the king knew a few weeks ago, he told me to keep an eye on him just incase they decide to meet"

"Who was he talking about?" Ernest asked

"Wiley Rockrof"

"I don't know who that is?" Elmer has never heard of anyone with that name in his life and why would the king tell Proteus to keep an eye on him, Elmer thought their talk was good, why would he ask for an investigation against him.

"The king told me you knew him" Proteus was ready to attack him again but his son stood in front of him "He is your friend but he has just killed the king, this is treason"

"If you don't have proof that he did it, you are not doing anything to him" Bert was not going to allow this to get pinned on Elmer again, his dad had to have proof or Elmer stays untouched.

"I knew he would do something like this" Hattie jumped in accusing Elmer.

"No he wouldn't" Era jumped to Elmer's defence "He likes me, why would he do something like that and I am leaving my husband for him"

"What!" Everyone around asked, Bert was just wondering why Era is talking as if he and Elmer were lovers. Hattie was disgusted by that and she made sure to not hide it from her face.

"I need you all to calm down" Ernest seemed to be the only one who was still in his right mind "My father has just died and I don't need whatever is going on here. Proteus is the head guard, I give you all the power to bring everyone that was involved in my father's death to justice, do what has to be done" Ernest ordered before getting into his father's room where his body is laid.

"Arrest him" Proteus ordered the guards that were around.

"But dad, he is not guilty"

"Until proven innocent, he is not leaving his cell"

"Dad, you can't do this to him" Bert bargained, if Elmer is imprisoned for this he is going to be taken as guilty after the history he has, this can't be pinned on him "I will search for whoever did this and bring him to you, you can't do this to him"

"Until you find them, he is not getting out of his cell"
