The snow had started to come down hard during the afternoon making driving to work not an easy task. Y/N contemplated taking the bus, but with not knowing if the buses would be running when she would be getting off of work, she didn't want to wind up being stranded knowing that Jimin was out of town and unable to come to her rescue. A common occurrence lately.
Unlocking the front door of the poker hall and flicking on the lights, she let out an already exhausted breath as she eyed the cleaners piss poor attempt at what they were hired to do. She didn't know how many times she had told them that clearing the table tops of any trash was also part of their job, not just pushing the vacuum cleaner around the floors at warp speed.
Just as she started to dump the empty beer bottles in the trash cans behind the bar, her phone vibrated in her pocket caught her attention.
Pulling her phone out expecting it to be Jimin, her eyebrows knitted together as she read over the text.
Ava
Y/N, I'm really sorry to do this but I can't come into work tonight. I have been sick all day and as much as I tell Jungkook I'm fine, he's insisting that I stay home. I hope you understand. Again, I'm really sorry. XSending her a quick 'get well' text, Y/N switched to Alex's number, hoping that he would understand her desperation in asking him to come in on his night off.
She could do it alone, but a 12 hour shift in heels alone was exhausting. She only wore heels knowing that she was taking the early shift and would be home by midnight.
But with Alex responding right away telling her he was at a family function for the night, she looked down at her feet as she faced her harsh reality that she was going to be in agony by the time she got home in the early hours of the morning.
"I can do this." She muttered to herself, kicking off her heels and taking the opportunity to be somewhat comfortable until the players started to arrive.
Being a Friday night, the poker hall was not only used to play cards, but for people to take advantage of the late night liquor license that she managed to obtain.
And with the poker club having no official closing time, tears were close to spilling from her eyes as she thought of the exhausting night ahead of her.
Dropping the last of the trash into the bin, she looked up just in time to hear the front door clicking open and revealing the best view she could have had at that moment.
"Hi gorgeous." Tae grinned as soon as he eyed her behind the bar. Walking towards her, he pulled her forward and pressed a kiss on the top of her head before dropping a pair of black dolly shoes down on the bar. "Jungkook told me Ava was sick, so consider me your new assistant for the night."
"Ugh, I love you!"
"I know you do." He smiled. "So what's the first thing I need to do, Miss boss lady?"
Sliding into her new shoes, she eyed the room and shrugged. She had done pretty much everything before he had arrived.
"You can start getting the decks of cards ready whilst I prepare the cash floats I suppose?"
Sitting opposite each other on one of the empty poker tables, Y/N was counting the cash of each float meticulously as Tae checked the cards for any marks. Even though they were fresh cards, they still had to be checked for any tiny marks that may give a hawk eyed player an edge.
"How you feeling gorgeous?" Tae asked, still keeping his eyes on the cards in his hands whilst she put the last of the poker chips into the tray in front of her.
"Tired." She breathed out a chuckle. "With this place, the house and the wedding, I have barely any time to scratch my ass."
"Well you look good at least." He smiled, looking away from the cards momentarily. "Jimin away again?"
"That reminds me." Y/N said, sliding out from the seat and grabbing the TV remote.
Spinning on the spot, she used the universal remote to power all of the TVs in the room one by one.
"Channel 5 right?" She asked, flipping through the channels trying to find her man.
Smiling as she saw her mans face flash across the screens, she instantly felt her shoulders relaxed. Even if he wasn't by her side, just seeing him in his element shuffling his poker chips was enough. Like he was in the room.
As the night went on, the club was starting to get full almost to capacity. Rowdy players filled the tables as the people that just showed up for the social aspect filled the seating area in front of one of the televisions. She tried her best to keep an eye on Jimins game but she was being pulled in all directions by the customers yelling their demands across the room.
Tae tried to help the best he could, jumping behind the bar, supplying the dealers with more chips when they needed them and even forcefully removing some people that seemed to have had too much to drink. But it looked like the night would never end as more people spilled through the door.
She knew it was ungrateful and she should appreciate their custom, but she really just wished they would fuck off so she could go home and go to bed. But the thought of spending another night alone in her large house stopped her from pulling the plug on the night.
"He's still in the game." Tae mentioned to Y/N as he passed her on his way to the bar, nodding his head towards the TV screen in front of them.
Looking up to see Jimin still sitting at the poker table with a large stack of chips in front of him, she glanced down at her watch, frowning as she noticed it was close to 3 in the morning.
She knew what it meant.
He wasn't going to make it home in time tomorrow.
