24. A Beautiful Smile

"Can I sit here?" Soobin asked, noticing that the rest of Taehyun's baseball team was sitting somewhere else.

The boy nodded, moving his bag so Soobin could sit down with his lunch.

"I'm Soobin."

"I know. Everyone knows," he grumbled.

"So... you're a fifth grader, right? I'm in sixth grade, so if you ever need help with any homework, I can help you."

Taehyun nodded.

"You seem pretty childish for a sixth grader."

"Says the younger one," he playfully scoffed. "So... where's your team?"

"Oh, we have this thing where the first person to be out in a game has to sit alone at lunch the next school day."

"That's kind of cruel."

Taehyun shrugged. "Well, now I'm not sitting alone, am I?" He asked with a small smile on his face. "Because a handsome bookworm just saved me."

Soobin's cheeks tinted pink. He didn't expect a sports player to be so... accepting of him.

But then again, Soobin was also popular amongst the students for reasons he didn't know. But everyone else knew.

He was handsome as hell.

"Taehyun, have you ever had a crush on a boy?" Taehyun's eyes widened.

"Uh... I-I don't know. Have you?"

Soobin nodded. He wanted to just tell Taehyun on the spot, but it would be kind of weird since they just met.

"Other students have told me that that's bad," Taehyun whispered, taking a bite of his pizza. "But like... G-Dragon-" Soobin immediately started laughing, catching the attention of everyone around them and Taehyun pouted. "Do you not like him?"

"Oh to Hell with that. Man's fine as fuck."

Taehyun's eyes widened. "You're a kid! You can't say bad words like that."

"Who said?" Soobin wiggled his eyebrows and Taehyun gasped.

"I did." It was Soobin's turn to gasp. "You're kind of adorable Choi Soobin."

And the boy blushed again.

"Mrs. Kang!" Soobin yelled, running over to the hysterical woman to hug her. "Is he okay?"

"I-I don't know-"

"Mrs. Kang," a doctor said, walking out of the room. "He's fine." Soobin sighed in relief. "But..."

Of course.

"But what?" Soobin asked.

"The machines... aren't working that well. They're working fine right now, but if he doesn't wake up in the next few days to be able to breathe on his own, then by Wednesday morning..."

Taehyun's mom immediately broke down and walked away with her head in her hands, multiple nurses trying to comfort her.

"Can I kiss you?" The young Taehyun asked.

The question threw Soobin off. They had been dating for a couple weeks, and now they were sitting on the play area at a park.

Taehyun just seemed so... soft and innocent.

"Sure. If you want," Soobin smiled softly, and Taehyun moved over to sit right by him.

"I'm kind of nervous Hyung. I've never kissed anyone before."

"Me neither. Do you just wanna give me a kiss on my cheek?"

Taehyun shook his head. "If I don't do it now, I never will."

Soobin thought that was good logic.

Before he knew it, Taehyun hesitantly placed his lips on his, and Soobin gasped at the weirdness of it.

At the sound, Taehyun immediately pulled away.

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to-"

"No, it's okay. It just surprised me. We can do it again."

Soobin smiled at that memory and pulled his locket off.

That day at the pool.

They were all dancing crazily in the water, and afterwards, Taehyun confessed he wanted to go to Soobin's house and meet his parents.

He went back inside Yeonjun's house and cried, thinking it was too early and he ruined their relationship. But Soobin comforted him and told him he would love for him to meet his parents.

Soobin remembered their first date, a movie theater date.

He remembered their first kiss.

The first "I love you's".

The condom fiasco.

Their first time.

Their time spent with all their friends.

And he remembered Taehyun's smile.

A beautiful smile that he could never forget no matter how hard he tried.
