"Wait sweetie," Katara said to Kya, "What happened to your eye? It looks like there's a bruise."

Kya mentally cursed herself for forgetting to reapply the makeup before she went home.

"Oh it's nothing Mom, just ran into an open cabinet," Kya shrugged, trying to come off as nonchalant.

Katara narrowed her eyes at her. "Are you being honest with me?" she asked suspiciously.

Kya nodded, "Of course!"

Katara raised an eyebrow, "You would tell me if someone was giving you trouble right?"

Kyas breath caught in her throat, "Yeah, why wouldn't I?"

"I don't know, but I feel like you're not telling the truth."

"I am Mom," Kya lied, feeling guilty for lying to her mom.

"Tenzin wanted me to tell you he went over the Lins house," Bumi said crashing into the room. Kya had never been so thankful to see her brother.

Katara rolled her eyes, "That boy always just does what he wants doesn't he?" She snickered a little, "Just like his father."

"It's cause he knows Dad would never punish his precious little air bender," Bumi grunted quietly.

"What was that?" Katara asked.

"Oh nothing," Bumi said heading out of the room, "Just talking to myself."

"How was school?" Katara asked.

Kya shrugged sitting down on the armchair across from her mother, "It was fine. Lin broke one of those dummies in gym today and then fixed it with metal bending, you should have seen the looks on everyone's faces."

Katara smiled, "You and Lin seem to be getting pretty close now that you have a class together."

Kya blushed a little. "Yeah I guess so," she said.

"It's nice knowing that in at least one class I don't have to worry about you being all alone. I also know Lin, she'd never let anyone give you grief."

"Yeah, almost every day she gets in a fight with those two girls for me," Kya said, "I've told her she doesn't have to protect me but she doesn't listen."

"That's the thing with the Beifongs," Katara chuckled, "They don't listen to anyone.

"Oh Tenzins here," Toph grunted throwing her keys on the table by the door. She debated rather or not she should call to Lin and let her know she's home early or if she should go into the living room and scare her daughter half to death. She decided on the second of course.

"Shit my mom's home early," Lin said pushing Tenzin away from her.

"How do you know? I don't hear anything," Tenzin asked straining his ears.

"Hey mom," Lin said just before Toph rounded the corner.

"Damnit I was gonna scare you," Toph snickered, putting her hands on her hips. "I guess you're getting better at sensing things around you."

"Yep, I've been working on it," Lin grinned proudly.

"Hey Twinkle Toes junior," Toph joked in Tenzin's general direction.

"Hey Cheif," he greeted her.

"Katara called me," Toph said moving to sit on the armchair across from the two kids. "Wanted me to ask you if you knew anything about the black eye Kya had."
