Chapter 2

"Toph and her girls are coming over for dinner tonight," Kya's mother Katara told her three kids.

"Oh, Lins coming?" Kya asked, a little over-excitingly.

"Yes, that's what mom just said isn't it?" Bumi said sarcastically, causing Kya to roll her eyes.

"I was just checking," Kya grumbled.

"Why do you care? She's my best friend," Tenzin stated blankly. "Get your own friends Kya."

"I think you guys can share Lin," Their father Aang added, laughing lightly.

"I had her first!" Tenzin complained, "Just 'cause she's in your gym class now doesn't mean she's your best friend now too!"

"I never said she was!" Kya argued, narrowing her eyes at her younger brother, "Why are you so jealous that I'm better friends with Lin now?"

"Sounds like he has a little crush," Bumi teased poking Tenzin in the side, "You like Lin!"

"I do not!" Tenzin slapped his brother's hands away crossing his arms across his chest as his cheeks turned red.

"You do have a crush on Lin don't you!" Kya joined her brother Bumi in teasing Tenzin.

"Leave your brother alone, it's not nice to tease him about his crush," Aang said putting a bowl of steamed carrots on the table. "Besides they should be here any minute."

"Ha! Even dad agrees you have a crush on Lin!" Bumi practically yelled.

"Who has a crush on my daughter," Toph Beifong said as she walked into the room with 9-year-old Suyin clutching her hand, and Lin and Katara on either side of her. Lin had a look of shock on her face and a blush creeping on her cheeks as she locked eyes with Kya.

"No one," Tenzin interjected probably a little too quickly.

Toph narrowed her eyes, "I can tell you're lying," she smirked, but decided to leave it alone.

"I'm not!" Tenzin argued.

Toph snickered, "You almost as bad of a lair as your dad twinkle toes."

"Speaking of twinkle toes, I'm going to go help him finish up dinner," Katara excused her self walking into the kitchen.

Tenzin grunted in defeat leaning back in his chair. "Whatever," he grumbled.

"Hey Lin, you should come to sit next to me," Kya said pointing to the empty chair next to her.

Lin walked around the table and sat next to Kya. Tenzin glared at his sister thought no one noticed since no one was looking at him.

"Hi, chief!" Bumi exclaimed saluting Toph, earning a small snicker from the blind woman.

"Hey kid," she answered sitting down across from him. Lins younger sister Suyin sat down next to her mother.

Katara walked back in holding a platter of some water tribe dish that Kya could never remember the name of.

"Dinners ready!" Aang said licking his lips as he sat down a bowl of salad in the middle of the table. The couple then took their seats, Aang and Tenzin said a blessing, and everyone started to dig in.

"It tastes amazing Katara," Lin praised the water bender.

"It is pretty good, I gotta admit you're not an awful cook," Toph added.

"Well thank you," Katara said ignoring the fact that that was a backhanded compliment, but a compliment nonetheless.

The rest of the dinner went smoothly, making conversation about school and the crime around republic city.
