"Kya?" Lin asked when she spotted her. "What are you doing here?"
"I'm here to talk to you, but you've been at the gym for the past like 4 hours," Kya said.
Lin rolled her eyes. "Why are you here though?"
Kya furrowed her eyebrows, "I thought you might need to talk."
Lin scoffed. "Do I seem like the kind of girl that wants to talk out her feelings?"
"Well, not normally, but this was a hard breakup you and Tenzin had dated for over a year."
Lin grunted dismissively and started heading up stairs to her room. "Hey don't walk away from me."
"I'm going upstairs to take a shower, feel free to follow me," Lin snapped back sarcastically.
Kya followed her up to her room. "How are you doing?"
"Fine," Lin said shortly.
"No, like really," Kya added.
Lin rolled her eyes. "Why do you care?"
Kya knew that she was just being rude because she hurting, Lin had a tendency to push people away when she was upset so Kya was determined to not let her do it this time.
"Because I'm your friend, and care about your well-being."
Lin narrowed her eyes at her. "I'm fine, I'll get over it." To Kyas surprise Lin just casually pulled off her shirt and threw it in her dirty clothes hamper.
"I know you will, but that doesn't mean you have to right away."
"Listen, I know your just trying to help but you aren't. I don't talk about my feelings okay? I'll get over it, and I just wanna be alone right now okay?"Lin explained trying to sound as nice as she could. "Now I really want to just take a fucking shower. You can leave or you can stay in here I really don't care." With that she walked into her bathroom and slammed the door. Soon after Kya heard the water start running. Kya sat down on Lin's bed waiting for her. After about 20 minutes the water turned off and Lin emerged with only a towel wrapped around her body. Kya and Lin locked eyes and a blush crept on both of their cheeks.
"Great your still here," Lin scoffed, though she was secretly very happy about it.
Kya caught her self staring and shook her head to clear her thoughts. "Yes I am, because I know you say you wanna be alone but that's too and cause I'm not leaving."
Lin rolled her eyes. "Clearly," she said.
She really did wanna be alone, but she liked having Kya around. She just wished she wouldn't try making her talk about her feelings.
Lin pulled out a pair of sweats and a tank top brought them back to the bathroom and changed into them. When she stepped out of the bathroom Kyas eyes automatically traced along Lins figure. She couldn't help but smile thinking about how beautiful the girl in front of her was.
Lin sat down on the bed next to Kya and plopped her head back on her pillow letting out a dramatic sigh. "So are you gonna talk to me or are you just gonna lay there?" Kya asked in amusement.
"Lay here," Lin responded. "I'm tired and my bed is very comfortable."
Kya rolled her eyes and layed back as well. "Alright, but if you change your mind I'm not going anywhere."
"Not gonna happen."
They laid there in comfortable silence for a few minutes before there was a knock on the door and Toph stepped in. "I just wanted to check on you real quick Lin," she said.
"I'm fine! Can everyone stop asking me how I'm feeling!" Lin snapped sitting up. "I'm fine!"
Kya flinched at Lin's sudden outburst.
"Okay I know your upset and when you get like that you take it out on everyone but you don't need to yell," Toph scolded. "I get it, you'd rather just punch and yell than cry but don't yell at me."
Lin rolled her eyes. "I may not be able to see you but I know you just rolled your eyes at me."
"Whatever," Lin grumbled.
"You know it's okay to cry," Kya interjected. "No ones gonna think your weak, in fact I think your one of the strongest people I know for being able to hold it together this long."
Toph laughed. "Just cause she doesn't cry doesn't mean she's holding it together."
"I already cried about it, i'm not crying again! Why do you want me to cry?" Lin snapped.
Toph left the room clearly sensing the energy of the room and knowing she wasn't needed.
"I don't want you to cry, I just want you to know that you can and Im not gonna judge you," Kya said in a soft, kind voice.
Lin paused and stared at her lap. The ran her tongue over her lips. Kya moved her hand slowly to hold onto Lin's and to her surprise she didn't pull it away.
"I just don't wanna talk about it okay?" Lin said, in a surprisingly calm voice. A single tear slid down Lin's cheek. She quickly wiped it away and went to get up but Kya pulled her into her and wrapped her in a hug. Kya watched as Lin's walls fell down and she broke down in Kyas arms. Kya rubbed circles on her back and ran her hands through Lin's wet hair. After about a minute Lin started to comprehend what she was doing and she jumped up pushing Kya away as quickly as possible and wiping the tears off her face.
"I-Im sorry," she stammered, lacking her usual confidence.
"It's okay," Kya sympathized. "You don't need to be sorry."
Lin rolled her eyes. "I just fucking broke down, yes I do. My problems are my problems not yours. Can you just leave me alone!" Lin snapped.
"Im here for you though, you don't need to go through this alone."
"I said leave me alone," Lin said in a low dangerous voice. Kya opened her mouth to respond but Lin suddenly yelled, "Just get out!"
At first Kya was shocked and hurt, but then she felt determined to not let Lin scare her away. She could tell Lin didn't want to be alone, but she was too scared to let Kya in. Kya stood up and grabbed Lin's hand tight so that when she tried to pull away she couldn't.
"Look at me," Kya said.
Lin turned and looked Kya directly in the eyes. She hadn't really noticed but Lin had grown so that she was the same height as Kya was.
"Im not leaving you alone," Kya said in a quiet voice. "Im not letting you push me away, I care about you too much."
Lin looked like she was at a loss for words. They stood there staring into each other's eyes for who knows how long before Kya got the urge to kiss her. She knew it was wrong but she didn't care. She leaned in slowly and to her surprise Lin did too. Their lips met and Kya felt like this was what was supposed to happen. Lin melted into the kiss putting her hands on Kyas waist and pulling her closer to her. That is until she realized what she was doing and pushed Kya away from her. Her eyes wide as she realized what just happened.
"I-I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable," Kya said, looking at the expression on Lin's face.
"I-It's fine," Lin stammered, not knowing what was going on. Kya had made her feel the opposite of uncomfortable and that confused her. "You didn't make me uncomfortable, I just, I don't know."
Kya raised an eyebrow, but she didn't know what to say.
"I just, I don't know but I think you should leave now," Lin continued. "You did nothing wrong I just need to think."
"Yeah okay," Kya answered turning and walking out.
