Chapter 5

6 months later
"I'll see you after class," Tenzin said kissing Lin on the cheek as she headed down for gym class.
She quickly changed into her gym clothes and just as she shut her locker Kya walked up next to her. Lin noticed she had a bruise over her left eye that she had clearly tried to hide with makeup. She either just didn't do a very good job or it's just rubbed off through the day so far.                          

Without thinking Lin grabbed the older girl's jaw and pulled her head down so she could see her eye better. "What happened to your eye?" Lin asked her, looking at her with a worry-filled expression.

Kya jerked her head away and tried to ignore the sound of her own heart pounding in her ears. "Nothing, just an accident," she snapped a little too quickly. 

Lin furrowed her eyebrows, "Your lying, I can tell."

"What?" Kya huffed, "No I'm not, I just ran into the edge of an open cabinet that's all."

Lin glared at her causing Kya to feel a little guilty for lying to her, though she didn't know why. Her gaze seemed to be penetrating, and Kya couldn't help but feel like she was reading her mind though she knew that was silly.

"Don't even try lying to me again Kya. What happened to your eye," Lin demanded, putting her hands on her hips.

Kya sighed, "It doesn't matter."

"Who did this?" Lin said, feeling an urge of pure anger.

"No one it doesn't matter!" Kya breathed, "Can you just leave it alone Lin?" She reached into her bag and pulled out a makeup compact and using the tiny mirror started reapplying the makeup. 

"No I can't," Lin snapped in a harsh tone that caused Kya to jump a little. She knew Lin's anger wasn't at her but she was still very intimidating, though Kya did have a few inches on her. "Whoever did this to you can't just get away with it Kya!"

"It doesn't matter Lin, just drop it okay!" Kya said in a raised voice. "Just leave it alone!"

"I'm not gonna leave it alone Kya! You're my friend and my boyfriend's sister, I can't just go on letting people hurt you!"

"It won't happen again," Kya muttered.

"What'd you say?" Lin asked taking a step toward her.

"Just drop it okay!" Kya snapped at her in a tone that would have caused anyone else to flinch. All it seemed to do to Lin was piss her off more.

"Whatever, I'll find out myself," she huffed in frustration. She turned and walked out of the changing room leaving Kya alone to change by herself.

"She always waits for me," Kya whispered to herself, a little sad that Lin had just stomped out like that. She didn't mean to make her mad, she just didn't want to make a big deal out of it. She always didn't want her brothers or parents to catch wind of anything because she knew Bumi would go after the guy, her mom would come down to the school and if they didn't do anything she would get revenge on him herself. Not to mention Lin would probably try and kill him and Tenzin would have to try and stop her.

They really did make a good couple considering Lin was so hot-headed and Tenzin was very level-headed. He was able to calm her down and keep her from doing anything rash and she was able to make him a little less boring.

Kya walked out of the changing room and to the gym where everyone was already gathered, Coach Chang giving the directions for the day.

"I want everyone to group up with the other benders of your element and you're going to go in a line to strike the target. Were going to work on the basic forms because frankly all of you are getting sloppy. Haiko will lead the fire benders, Kya the water benders, and Lin the earth benders. They are all going to try and correct your form until I can get to you all to do it myself. Take what Kya and Haiko say seriously but don't take it to heart unless I reiterate what they tell you they may be the best of this class but they are no master, well Kya is close enough though but that's not the point. Then again I'm not either, well a fire bender, yes but I'm no water bender. I've only studied the forms of the three elements.
