"If you can make it to the end with me I'll let you win," Lin smirked. "You just have to actaully make it to the end this time."
Kya smacked her girlfriend on the shoulder. "He got a lucky shot!"
"Oh yeah sure," Lin teased as they walked out to the gym.
Coach Chang went through his usual speech about the beginning of semester tournament, and how whoever won got out of the end of semester assessments. The tournament started with two fire benders so Kya and Lin sat down on the bleachers next to each other.
"You better let me win, I am not running that stupid mile," Kya snickered.
"Don't worry, I'll let you win. I won't make it look easy though," Lin smirked.
"Oh yeah, we gotta put in a good show at first."
"Exactly, if you win too quickly people will know I let you win."
"Though I could beat you without you throwing the fight for me," Kya added.
Lin raised an eyebrow at her. "You're cute," Lin smirked at her.
"Thank you," Kya said ignoring the fact that it wasn't meant as a compliment this time. "But I definitely could beat you."
"Mhmm sure, keep dreaming," Lin teased.
Kya pretended to be offended. "You think I couldn't?"
Lin shrugged magnanimously. "I'm just saying I'm undefeated."
"I would say let's test this but I really don't wanna chance having to run the mile," Kya said pursing her lips in defeat.
Lin smiled, "Ha-Ha, you know you couldn't beat me."
"Yes I could," Kya objected.
"Lin and Jao!" Coach Chang anounced.
Lin went up and beat Jao, a water bending girl, in less than 30 seconds. She returned to her seat next to Kya who was still pouting in disapproval.
"I could totally beat you," Kya grumbled.
"We'll have to try sparring again, hopefully that time your brother won't decide to jump in," Lin said rolling her eyes.
"Kya and Alix!" Coach Chang anounced.
Kya grumbled, "Great."
"Hey you got this," Lin reassured her putting her thigh reassuringly.
"Hopefully," Kya answered.
Lin was right and Kya did have it. She beat Alix though it wasn't easy for her. She ended up icing the floor right as Alix was about to take a step and she slipped and fell out of the ring.
"I told you you could do it!" Lin smiled as Kya came and sat down next to her again.
It was almost the end of the tournament and it was looking like finally it would be Kya and Lin in the end like they had been trying to do all year. As long as Kya won this round she was gonna have to face Lin. Kya wiped her opponent back sending her out of the ring.
"The final round will be Lin versus Kya!" Coach Chang anounced gleefully.
Lin walked down from the bleachers to the ring and smirked at Kya. "You ready?" She asked wiggling her eyebrows teasingly.
"Oh yeah," Kya answered.
Coach blew his whistle and Lin uncharacteristically threw the first blow, kicking an earth disk towards Kya who easily side stepped it. Lin wasted no time in sending two more disks flying towards Kya, one narrowly missing Kyas shoulder. Kya finally sent a stream of water towards Lin who put her arm up causing the stream to break and flow to her sides. She send two more disks at Kya who blocked them with a wall of ice that she then sent at Lin in shards. Lin pulled up a wall of earth and the ice shattered against it, Lin kicked it towards Kya who dove to the side to avoid being crushed by it. As she dove to the side Lin sent a disk at her hitting her in her middle. Though Kya could tell she hadn't put even half her normal about of power in it, it still hurt. Kya simultaneously whipped water at her and used the same trick she had used in Alix on Lin causing Lin to fall on her back. Disappointingly though she fell inside the ring and kipped back up the standing quickly, though this time she purposefully stood much closer to the side so Kya could knock her out of it easier. Lin half heartedly sent a couple disks at Kya who dodged them sending a fast stream of water knocking Lin back and out of the ring. Lin knew she could have blocked that easily though, at least that's what she was telling her self.
Everyone's faces dropped as they realized Kya had just beat Lin.
"Wow," Coach Chang said, "You having an off day Lin or did Kya just suddenly get even better than she already was?"
Lin stood up slowly seeming to have the breath knocked out of her. "Having an off day I think," Lin said quite believably. "But Kya is a great bender so I wouldn't pin it all on my off day."
Kya smirked confidently. "Maybe you just aren't as good as you think," Kya teased.
Lin's eyes narrowed at her with a look that read perfectly 'watch yourself', which only make Kya smirk even more.
"Well good job Kya, you get out of the end of semester assessments," Coach Chang congratulated. "Class dismissed, go get changed."
Lin walked up to Kya and they headed towards the locker rooms. "Good job," Lin smirked at her. "Though you left your self wide open so many times that I could have easily knocked you out."
Kya snickered, "Oh is that so? It looked like I really got you there at the end."
"Yeah, I didn't want people thinking I threw the match for my girlfriend," Lin shrugged. "I'd look like an idiot."
"For caring about me enough to throw a match so that I didn't have to do the assessments?" Kya said in a way that Lin felt like she definitely could answer wrong.
"Well when you put it that way," Lin stammered trying to think of what to say.
Kya laughed, "I'm messing with you."
Lin sighed, "Oh good cause I had no idea what to say to that."
"Yeah I could tell that's what made it so funny."
