"I think your in the wrong class, this P.E is for the juniors," a girl with long dark hair and brown eyes says to Lin as she puts her bag in an empty locker.
"No i'm in the right class," Lin said with no interest in debating with this girl.
"I don't think you heard me right, this class is for the juniors and your not a junior," she argued.
Lin rolled her eyes, "I'm aware, I was transferred to this class."
The girl looked at her with a look of surprise and disgust, "And why would they put a freshman in a junior class?" she asked crossing her arms.
"I guess you'll find out won't you," Lin snickered changing into her gym clothes.
"Lin! They really did put you in this class!" Kya exclaimed walking over to her excitingly.
"Yeah they did," Lin answered closing the locker. "Apparently they were tired of the amount of concussions I was giving some of the other students."
Kya snickered, "There gonna be real disappointed when you do the same thing in this class."
Lin smirked, "I guess we'll see."
Lin and Kya had kinda grown up together, although Kya was two years older they always got along well. Lin was best friends with Kyas younger brother Tenzin so they weren't exactly best friends or anything, but she was the only person she knew in this class. Kya was grateful to have Lin now considering the whole school seemed to have turned against her when she came out.
Kya and Lin walked out of the changing rooms and to the gym together.
"Alright class, i'm sure you've noticed but we have a new bender joining us today. We had to transfer her to this class because she's too advanced for the other freshman and kept giving them all concussions and I got tired of the paper work," Coach Chang said pacing in front of the students. "Why don't you introduce yourself, your name age and bending."
Lin stood up straighter as all eyes fell on her, "I'm Lin Beifong, Im 15, and I'm an earth and mental bender," she stated with as much confidence as possible.
"You can metal bend already? Where'd you learn that? You have to go to metal bending academy to learn that!" a guy asked her in awe.
"Her moms Chief Beifong where do you think she learnt it!" another girl said to him.
"Seeing as today is the first day of a new semester we will have our little tournament so that I can see all of your skills to place you in groups accordingly. Not to mention a little friendly competition never hurt anyone, but with that being said your goal is to knock your opponent out of the ring not hurt them,"Coach Chang said looking right at Lin. He then pointed to the board he had put up with everyone's names in the color of the element they bend. "There will be one winner who gets to get out of the end of semester mile run along with all the other fun things you all hate. We're gonna start from the top of list and work our way down as per usual. So Alix, your up first with Mei-Ling."
Everyone went to sit on the bleachers while the two girls stepped on the circle in the middle of the gym. It looked similar to the one in the pro-bending arena but much much smaller. They sparred and eventually Alix won and coach wrote her name on the board. A few more pairs went up until finally it was Lin's turn.
"Lin and June your up next," Coach Change said.
Lin won within 30 seconds, knocking the other girl out of the ring.
"Well that was fast," Coach Change muttered under his breath as he wrote Lins name. Lin wasn't paying much attention until Kyas name was called. He watched her fight another water bender for a few minutes until the other girl got kicked back and stepped out of the ring.
"Nice job," Lin said to Kya.
"Thanks," she smiled at her, "Not as good as you did though obviously. I think that was the fastest Ive ever seen someone win one of these.
"Her stance was all off, it was pretty easy to just knock her over," Lin shrugged, though she felt her self blush a little which confused her immensely. She's used to getting compliments and has never blushed at them before.
This went on and on with Lin knocking out her opponents in a minute at max. Kya lasted all the way until she had to face Alix, who has apparently never lost one of these things. She didn't look that impressive to Lin but she grew up around bending her whole life. Eventually it came down to the last two, Lin and Alix.
"Earth on earth," Alix sniggered, "Guess we'll see who's the better earth bender freshie."
"I think we both know the answer to that already," Lin smirked getting in formation, waiting for coach to blow his whistle. Alix narrowed her eyes at Lin menacingly. As soon as the whistle blew she bent two disks flying towards Lin's head, which Lin easily blocked. Lin let Alix send disk after disk flying at her, while she easily maneuvered around them.
"What? You not gonna even bother to fight back freshie!" Alix mocked sending two disks flying at her.
Lin pushed them aside and they hit the ground crumbling.
"Oh we're fighting? I thought you were getting warmed up," Lin smirked finally kicking a disk at Alix. It slammed into her shoulder and caused her to take a step back right into a hole Lin had created. She stumbled back and fell onto her back. She quickly jumped back up with a cough and a look of anger.
"Your gonna regret that," Alix snarled bending two disks directly at Lin's face. Just for amusement Lin used her head to break the rocks and then sent the crumbled disks swarming back at her. Alix formed a wall in front of her and the rocks cracked on the surface. She kicked the wall towards Lin who easily just broke right through it. She noticed Alix was wearing a metal cuff bracelet on each of her wrists so she metal bent them causing Alixs arms to wave around.
"That's not fair! You can't metal bend my bracelets!" she complained.
"Oh but I can!" Lin retorted with. Alix huffed in frustration kicking a disk at Lin since she no longer had control of her arms. Lin redirected the disks to go flying into Alixs stomach and sent her flying back wards hitting the bleachers with a thud.
Everyone cheered and clapped so loud as Coach Chang wrote Lin's name as the winner on the board.
"She shouldn't have been allowed to metal bend! That's not fair she's the only one here that can do it!" Alix complained.
"It's a form of earth bending," Coach Chang replied, "And besides she only used it on your bracelets which you chose to wear knowing full well Lin is a metal bender so I see no problem with what she did."
Lin smirked, "Don't wear metal if you don't want me to use it against you."
"None of us even have the opportunity to learn metal bending unless we wanna join the police force!" Alix complained.
Kya walked over to Lin and patted her on the back. "That was amazing Lin! When you used your head to break those disks you should have seen the look on everyone face it was priceless!" Kya praised.
Lin tried to hide her grin as she looked up at the older girl. "Thanks," she answered, wiping the sweat off her forehead.
"Come on let's go hit the showers you smell like Oogie," Kya joked as they headed back to the changing room.
