Catching Up

It's early in the next morning, almost sunrise to be exact. Thomas woke up early before anyone else. He walked over to the boulder and grabbed the tools. He carved Teresa's name, close to where Chuck's name was. Now, he feels that her death is finally at rest. After that, Thomas went for a walk on the beach. The ocean waves were crashing onto the shoreline and there was a light breeze in the air. It felt refreshing.

Thomas felt something in his pocket. He pulled out the vial of serum that Teresa made with his and Mallory's blood. It wasn't until he realized that he's holding the cure for the Flare virus in his hands.

Everyone else woke up to a new day. It felt so nice to finally have a good night sleep, and in such a long time.

Mallory slowly opened her eyes and stretched as she sat up in the bed.

"Good morning." Joel said to her as he rummaged through the clothes bins.

"Morning, Dad. Wow, I feel so refreshed." Mallory said.

"That's good." Joel said.

The two of them got dressed. then walked out of their hut. Mallory spotted some of her friends sitting at a picnic table. The only people that weren't there yet were Brenda, Aris, Sonya, and Harriet.

They sat down and started a conversation. A few minutes later, Minho spotted Courtney helping Newt walk up the path. He looked to be getting better. As they waited for breakfast to come around, Vince and Jorge came over to their table to discuss what jobs they would like to do.

Frypan already called being the head cook, and Gally did the same as the head builder. Courtney had already settled on being the head doctor. Since there's no Maze to run, Minho settled on being a builder. Thomas and Newt decided to work in the gardens again. Joel chose to be a builder and Luke chose to be a cook.

"Mallory, you're the only one that's left. What job do you want to for the Safe Haven?" Vince asked her.

She thought for a minute, then an idea came to mind.

"Courtney, would you like some help in the medical center?" Mallory asked.

"Sure. I could always use an extra set of hands." Courtney responded.

"She was a pretty good med-jack in the Glade." Newt pointed out, nudging her shoulder.

"All right, then. You guys better going on your new jobs after breakfast." Jorge advised.

With that, the two of them left. A minute later, two other cooks arrived with breakfast and everyone started to eat. After everyone finished their breakfast, they all went their separate ways to do their jobs.

"Thomas, Mallory, I want to give you guys a medical evaluation. So, could you come with me to the medical center?" Courtney said to them.

"Sure." Thomas answered.

"No problem." Mallory said.

Courtney helped Newt stand up from the picnic table, but then he started to walk on his own without any support. The four of them walked up the path to get to the medical center. The three of them sat down on the beds that were already there.
