Chapter 9

(Ashton's POV)

6pm was nearing and I was waiting for Brooke at the lake. I payed an employee to set up a canoe because 'I was looking for fish at night for my project.' I sit down on the cold bench, making my butt freezing. Will she come? What if she was laughing at me thinking I was insane to ask her? What if she has a boyfriend?

"Hi Ash," a voice says behind me, breaking away my thoughts.

"Brooke, Hi."

"Are we going canoeing? Because I don't know how to at all."

"Me too," I admit, "But let's give it a try."

I walk her over to the canoe and let her go in the front while I push the canoe into the water and slide into the back. I grab my paddle and begin moving it back and forth in the water.

I have to say, I could've chosen something better than this because it's completely dark on the lake and there is hardly any lights.

"So Brooke, tell me about you," I say.

"Okay, well...I'm 17, I live in Chicago, I am a only child, with a mom only. My father kinda left us when I was 10. I like food, especially pizza."

Michael wants another slice....

"Ashton, you know stuff about me, what about you?"

"Well, I'm an open book really. But I am from Horsnby, Australia. I have two siblings, Lauren and Harry. I only have my mom, Ann. I like food. That's mainly it."

"Well Ashton, from Horsnby, Australia, I kinda like you."

I freeze. How is this happening? I like Brooke too, but is it too soon? All the other guys plan on asking their girls out soon, I'm just gonna be a loner. I shouldn't think that way. I like Brooke.

"Let's play 20 questions," I suggest.

"Okay. Favorite activity?"

"Drumming, Relationship status?" I say, taking a chance.

"Single, you?"

"Same, but not for long."

"Oh," she says sounding disappointed.

"I didn't say who. It could be anyone. But I really like this person, but I've only known her for a day," I say smiling.

"What is she like?" Brooke asks.

"Well, she is from Chicago...she is an only child, and is 17."

"Good, I guess, well you deserve her, just treat her right."

"Do you think, since I took her on a canoe ride at night, that that's good enough?" I say with a smirk.

"Wait, what?" she asks confused.

"Brooke, you're the only girl I know, that is 17, lives in Chicago, and is an only child."

"You like me?" she asks.

"In every language possible, yes."

I can't believe I just said that. How did I have the balls to anyways? I think back to what Luke told me to do, 'Tell her you like her in a smooth way, then kiss her.'

Kiss her? Well, I mean we leave in a month so, it's now or never. Maybe I'll thank myself for this later. I start to move closer to her in the small canoe, and lean in. As our lips were about to touch, the canoe tips over and I am drenched in freezing cold lake water. I place my head over the water and see Brooke shivering. I pull her close to me and hold her.

"This was the best date ever," I say laughing.

We begin swimming over to the shore and just leave the canoe there to float or sink.  I feel the sand hit my knees and I stand up. It is so cold, especially when I'm wearing jeans.

"I'm sorry Brooke."

"Don't be, it was really good, until the canoe kinda ruined the moment," she says referring to the almost kiss.

"Should we continue where we were?" I ask.

"Of course!" she says laughing.

With that, I grab her hips and move her closer to me. Our lips connect within seconds and it's amazing. Sparks everywhere. Our kiss lasts for about a minute as we get deeper into it.

*****

(Luke's POV)

Me and Jenn were cuddling up and sitting by the fire pit outside just talking about the most random things.

"If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?" She asks.

"No where, I want to stay here."

"Luke, what happens when you leave in a month," she asks sitting up and looking at me straight in the eyes.

I froze, I never really thought about it much. I don't want to end things with her. I like her too much. I lean in and peck her lips before I say, "I honestly don't know what will happen, but I promise, we will stay together. I can't lose you so fast."

"Thanks Lucas."

"LUKE LUKE LUKE LUKE LUKE LUKE LUKE!" I hear coming from the woods.

"Who is it?"

Just then, a Ashton Irwin came out from the darkness and had a huge smile on his face. He must have been running for a while because he was sweating, a little too much?

"Why are you sweating so much?" I ask sweating.

"WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THAT!? I GOT A GIRLY FRIEND, well, not girlfriend, but I really like her and she likes me sooooo..."

"Really? Wow! Good job man."

I get up from me and Jenn's cuddling hour and hug him. I can't believe he actually got someone. He is a shy person and I can't see him having a girlfriend. Maybe it's the curls that gets everyone.

"How did this happen?" Jenn asks.

"Well, so me and this girl named Brooke met this morning, but we met the day we got here too at registration. So, I asked her to go canoeing with me and right before we were about to kiss, our canoe tipped over. Then after all that terrible stuff, me and Brooke kissed and while we walked to her cabin, she told me she really liked me!"

"Congrats dude! Now go tell everyone else," I say.

I hug Jenn and we just stand there, her in a blanket, staring at the fire that was almost dying.
