Chapter 56
(Calum's POV)
"Wha-What?" I say, struggling to get the words out of my mouth.
The audience is staring at me in confusion and I feel like I should tell them. I don't want to be that band or person that keeps secrets. I don't have time to tell everyone. We have an interview later this week so I could tell everyone then. I should explain why I am running with the guys and their dates to our cars.
Everyone gasps as we walk out of the auditorium. I unlocked the car that Luke and Jenn and I are driving in and wait for them.
"Everyone in?" I ask.
They nod and I begin driving out of the parking lot and to the hospital. My GPS said that the hospital was 5 minutes away, we could make that 2 minutes if I speed up a little.
"Cal slow down. We are going to be there soon," Luke says.
"No. I need to see Catherine."
A few minutes later, we are in the hospital parking lot. I park right across from the entrance and run out. Luke and Jenn take their time, probably because Jenn can't run in a dress. From my right, I see Ash, Michael and the One Direction guys.
"Why are they here? They don't even know who she is!" I say to Ashton.
"Well someone didn't tell them about the accident so I did. They got worried once I told them about Jenn, so they wanted to come and talk to her."
"They couldn't have waited until tonight when they stay at Luke's place?"
Ashton shrugs his shoulders and I run as fast as I can to the stairs. Elevators take too long. There was one person behind me, rushing as fast as I was and that was Jenn. She was holding the end of her dress with one hand and carrying her heels in the other. Catherine and her just became best friends before the accident.
Catherine was on the 4th floor. I was already on the 3rd. I climb the stairs, skipping every other step to make it go by quicker.
"Right here!" Jenn says, pointing to the door with the number four on it.
I open the door and run to Catherine's door. I don't care if I had to check in with the desk. I wanted to see Catherine.
"Catherine?" I say, walking into her room.
"Calum!" She says.
I run over to her, giving her the biggest hug. She was still in the hospital bed, but no wires were on her, except a heart monitor.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't here as soon as you woke up. There was an award show and we won the award and Jenn said the hospital called and said you were awake while I was giving a speech and-"
She interrupts me by putting her lips on mine. I was shocked at first, but then started kissing back.
"Thank you," she says.
"For what?"
"The doctors said that you have been here every day, staying overnight, or if you couldn't come, you called and checked up on me. It means a lot Cal."
I hold her hand in mine and just enjoy that she is alive. I hear the door open and I turn around to see Jenn in tears.
"Catherine!" she cries.
I let go of her hand and back away. I let Jenn hug her and they begin another conversation. I walk out of the room and towards the guys.
"What happened to your dates?" I asked them.
"They went home. They didn't know who Catherine was, so they left," Michael says.
Luke and Harry were in a deep conversation, probably talking about the accident. Louis was here surprisingly. He sat on a chair and was scrolling through his phone. I wanted to say something, but I didn't want to start a fight.
"So did you ask her out yet?" Ashton asks.
"No...why do I have to do it now?" I ask.
Instead of replying, they push me into the room and close the door behind me. Leaving me, Jenn, and Catherine alone.
"I'll talk to you later Cath," Jenn says walking past me and exiting the room.
"Hey Cal."
"Hi...um there's something I've been wanting to ask you," I say awkwardly.
"Go ahead."
"Screw it. Catherine, ever since I saw you at the park a few months ago, I instantly started liking you. When I had to leave, I wanted you to come with me. Hearing about the accident, minutes after it happened broke my heart. I immediately took a plane to Chicago to see you. I wanted to be the first person you saw when you woke up. I have never cared so much about someone in my life. I really really like you and it would be the best thing ever if you could be my girlfriend."
"Calum?" she asks.
"Yea?"
"I would be stupid if I said no, of course I'll be your girlfriend."
I smile at her and lean in, connecting our lips again. I hear cheers and screams coming from outside and look to see everyone banging on the window and door, cheering and laughing. They all barge in the door and surround me and Catherine. They gives us hugs and pats on the backs until I finally give up and start cheering too.
Catherine leaves the hospital tomorrow and I can't wait. I've never been so happy in my life. It's sad to think that if she never woke up, I wouldn't have this moment in my life. She's my girlfriend now, and I absolutely love her.
