Chapter 14

Austin's eyes widened. I was certain he didn't expect any of this.

Austin looked away avoiding my gaze before saying,"No..how could I fall..in love with you? Just like you said, I'm your younger brother."

I heaved a sigh of relief."That's a relief. Sacred me for awhile back there when Samantha said you were in love with me."

"Right.." Austin said.

"So how's that girl and you coming along?" I asked.

"It's impossible." Austin replied.

"Why do say that? Nothing is impossible. Have you tried telling her how you feel?"

"Tried but..I couldn't bring myself to say it." Austin answered.

"She has a boyfriend right?" I asked Austin.

"Erm..yeah.." Austin replied.

"Oh."

"Jayne." Austin grabbed my hand.

"Hmm?" I turned to him.

He stared at me. His lips were struggling to be apart as if he was trying to say something.

My gaze slowly moved from his face to his hand on mine.

Somehow the whole atmosphere changed.

It felt different. 

"Nothing." Austin pulled away, releasing my hand.

"Oh." I said.

I looked as Austin stared at the lake and sky.

What was that?

"How was it?" Samantha asked.

"You mean..about Austin and I?" I said as I dried my hair with a towel.

"Yeah..what else? Knowing your character, you asked him." Samantha replied.

I kept silent.

"You asked him, didn't you?" Samantha sat on the bed.

"Yeah." I told her."I did."

"What did he say? He likes you right?"

"No. He doesn't. Apparently we were wrong. But.." I said.

"But?" Samantha asked.

"I don't know..I.." I stopped there.

I didn't know what I was gonna say.

"Jayne? You alright?" Samantha stood up.

"Y-yeah." I answered.

Something is different. I don't recognize it. It's completely unknown to me.

"Alright..I'm gonna sleep." Samantha said."We have a long day tomorrow."

"What are we gonna do?" I asked her.

"Oh I don't know. Ask Lucas." She yawned.

"Okay." I said.

Samantha felt asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow.

I switched off the lights and sat on the bed. My hair was still damp so can't go to sleep yet.

I took out my phone and there was another message from Clare.

Yet another picture.

I hated this. I gripped the phone tightly as  tears fell from my eyes.

I wasn't over Jake. I was far from that.
