Chapter 18

By the time I woke up, the sun had barely risen.

I turned my phone on. It's only six in the morning.

I tied up my hair and headed out of the tent. Everyone should be asleep. Well I think they slept pretty late yesterday.

The sky was still dark with a tinge of brightness at the horizon.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. Wow..that really helps.

"Jayne. You're up already?" A voice said.

I turned around."Yeah.You should be asleep. Why aren't you, Lucas?"

"I'm not really sure myself." Lucas continued."You guys are leaving today."

"Yeah..We had so much fun together in high school. It was a shame that you had to move here. Samantha and I really missed you." I walked towards him.

"Same here." Lucas smiled."Jayne. I want to ask you something."

"Yeah?"

"I can sense something between you and Austin. Well..like..a tension. What's going on between you guys?" Lucas asked.

I took a deep breath before saying," Lucas, do you remember the night before last? What you told me?" I turned to him.

"What?" Lucas said."Let me rethink..oh yes. About Jake and about you falling in love with Austin."

"Yeah..so.."

"You really do love Austin!" Lucas exclaimed.

"Shush. Keep it down and no I don't." I replied.

"Your answer and your expression tells me two different things..are you sure you don't?" Lucas said.

"That's it...I'm not sure at all." I answered."I love Jake.But...I ..have..I don't know..mixed feelings?"

"Mixed feelings huh?" Lucas sighed."That's tough.But..one thing you're sure about..you love that jerk don't you?"

"Yes. I do." I nodded."I can't get over him..that's why..I can't confirm what kind of feelings I have for Austin."

"Do you feel happy with Austin?" He asked.

"Yes very much..but now..he's avoiding me. Besides..even if I do admit I love him..he loves somebody else." I confessed."And..I don't want to be hurt again..."

"Looks like you're going through a lot.." Lucas spoke."But..him loving someone else..I don't know about it. But..let me tell you something."

"What is it?"

"Don't fall in love with someone else before getting over that Jake. Because...it wouldn't be fair to that person." Lucas advised.

"Yeah..that's what I'm doing." I told him.

"Besides..I think the person Austin loves is actually-"

"Morning guys!" Henry's voiced echoed through the cool morning.

"Henry!" I turned around, startled.

"Hey sis..don't tell me you're eyeing on your bestfriend's boyfriend...that's sick.." Henry joked.

"No I wasn't!" I scolded."Shut it."

"Ooh.Scary.." Henry laughed.

"Yeah shut up." Lucas hit him lightly.

I looked at Lucas as he hit Henry playfully.
What was Lucas gonna say just now? And suddenly I felt a spark in my heart.

A spark of hope.
