Haylee’s POV
“Promise me you’ll be careful? London’s a big place, sweetheart!” My mom cried, pulling me in for a big hug at the gate.
“Yes, mom, I’ll be fine! My apartment is in a good location and it’s close to the college. Imperial is top rated! Trust me; I’m going to be fine. I need this, mom. I really think it will help.” I explained.
I had moved to London for a fresh start. After graduating high school, I wanted something new, something that I hadn’t done before. I had always wanted to go to London and I figured that now was as good a time as any. I’d saved all of my money from graduation and from my babysitting job I’d had to get enough for my apartment. I’d gotten and scholarship to Imperial College of London for my film and art abilities.
It had taken two weeks to get settled into my apartment and I’d barely slept at all in the past few days. College was starting tomorrow and I was excited and nervous all at the same time. Plopping down on my couch, I pulled out my phone to call my mom.
“Hey mom! I just thought I’d call and say I finally got everything settled. Classes start tomorrow, so I’m going to crash early!” I said into the phone. I’d moved to London a week ago to get my apartment set up and get moved in. I had also gotten my books for my classes as well.
“Oh that’s great honey! How is everything?” She asked.
“It’s really good,” I yawned. “I have a really early class tomorrow, though and it’s already 1 am here, so I’m going to get some sleep, alright? I’ll call you in the morning or tomorrow.” I told her. I hung up and crawled wearily into bed, falling asleep instantly.
My alarm rang, startling me out of bed. I checked my phone, seeing that it was now 6 am London time, which meant it was roughly 1 am American time. I shook my head at the time difference, still feeling the effects of jet lag. I took a quick shower, got dressed and grabbed a bit to eat. I wrote a reminder to go shopping for food after classes.
It was Monday, which meant I had three classes today, Drawing 1, Composition and Ancient Art History. I loaded my supplies into my car and drove to campus. The grounds were already busy with students bustling in and out of the building. I grabbed my art supplies, put on my llama hat and headed into the school. This was going to be an interesting day. It took ten minutes for me to get to my class room and thankfully, I’d left early so I wasn’t late.
Setting my stuff down on my desk, I scoped out the class room, spotting the usual students who took the class because they loved drawing. The ones who actually were taking this class for a purpose were easy to spot because they dressed similar to me. A voice from the door caught me off guard. “Is this room 170? Drawing 1?” The guy asked. I spun to see what he looked like.
My breath caught in my throat. I knew that the voice sounded familiar! There in front of me was Dan Howell himself. I dropped my pencil and bent down to pick it up, smacking my head on desk. “Ow ow ow!” I winced, standing up slowly.
“Are you alright, love?” Dan asked. I glanced up to see that he’d taken the desk next to me. I nodded and winced again. “Aha! Llama hat! Are you a dinosaur?”
“Ha, do you even have to ask? Oooo, my head!” I mumbled.
“Oh! Right then, take off the hat.” He instructed. I did as he said and he gently helped me on to a chair and stood behind me, his fingers softly parting my hair. He carefully prodded the spot where I’d hit my head. “Hmm. Well, good news is I don’t think you did any damage. You will have quite the headache though.”
“Thanks.” I said quietly. “I’m Haylee. Haylee Wright.”
Dan smiled. “That’s a lovely name. I’m Dan, but I guess you know that!” he laughed. I laughed with him, but winced. “You alright?”
“No, I’m a bit dizzy actually.” I moaned.
Dan frowned. “How about I take you home, eh? I know we have class but you really should be seen to. I’ll tell the professor that you’re my girlfriend and that I’m taking you to our flat because your head is hurting, alright?”
