Haylee’s POV
Dan had been acting weird since we’d gotten here, almost as if he knew something but wouldn’t say what it was. I got a temporary break from worrying about it as we went to a Muse concert then out for drinks with friends. There was drunken karaoke, which was hilarious, and eventually we went back to the hotel. My mind was racing, making it impossible for me to sleep. “Chassidy? Are you awake?”
She shifted in her bed and turned on the light. "Yeah. Can't sleep?" I nodded and she sat up. "Well how about we talk for a bit then? Hmm?"
"I'm so afraid. Dan's been acting so strange since we got here and I don't know what's wrong. Something is bothering him and it's bothering me." I sighed.
"Yeah, I noticed that too. The best thing you can do is act like you don't know and then let him come to you when he's ready." She suggested. I nodded and sighed, dropping my head into my hands.
"I'm just afraid that he doesn't want me around anymore..." I trailed off.
"What?! Why would you think that?! Of course he wants you around! He loves you, Haylee. Can't you see that?" She questioned.
"I know he loves me! I just feel like I've ruined his life!" I cried, finally breaking down. Chassidy climbed out of her bed and put an arm around my shoulders as she sat down. I leaned on her shoulder and cried. Best friends know when words can fix everything and when silences can fix everything. This time, it was silence. I needed to cry and she knew that. Words weren't always the way to heal a wounded heart. Sometimes, silence can fix the broken mess.
When I finally calmed down enough, she spoke again. "Are you alright?" I nodded and wiped my eyes. She smiled and gave me a hug. "You know you can always talk to me."
"Same goes for you. How are you doing?" I asked. She sighed and changed positions.
“I’m getting better. It’s taking time, but I’m learning to be okay with Phil and to know that he would never hurt me. I know that he wouldn’t and it’s just going to take some time for me to fully believe it, I guess.” She answered.
“I understand. Phil loves you so much and he’d never hurt you, Chassidy.” I told her. She nodded, running her hand through her hair.
“Well, I’m tired; I think I’m going to go to bed.” She yawned, climbing back into her bed. “Night, Haylee.” She gave a small wave before disappearing under the duvet.
Chassidy’s POV
I smoothed the fabric of the Organza dress and glanced in the mirror. Nervously, I opened the door of the dressing room and the stylist followed me out, holding the train of the dress. I stepped into the center of the room where Dan, Phil and Haylee were waiting for me. I heard the gasps as I walked in and I began to blush. “What do you think?” I asked, stepping up on the pedestal.
“You look amazing!” Haylee cried.
“I like it!” Dan approved. Phil seemed speechless and I was afraid he didn’t like it or that he was getting cold feet.
“Phil?” I questioned.
“You look incredible, love.” He managed, a smile on his face that wouldn’t leave. Tears sprung to my eyes and I nodded.
“This is the one. This is the dress!” I cried. Everyone cheered and I headed back to the changing room to get changed. Before I changed back, the seamstress took my measurements and pinned the dress where it needed to be altered. I took one last look at the dress and headed out to join Dan and Phil to help Haylee pick out her dress.
Haylee’s POV
I was nervous about stepping out in the dress I had picked, but I’d instantly fallen for this dress the minute I’d seen it. The fabric was soft and it had the full skirt that I wanted. Taking a deep breath, I walked out of the dressing room and stepped onto the pedestal. “Well?” I asked nervously, spinning around. Dan looked like he’d never seen anything more beautiful in his life and was truly at a loss for words. I blushed.
“That’s the one!” Chassidy squealed. “It’s perfect for you!” I grinned and looked at Dan for a final answer. He nodded, his eyes never leaving me. I smiled and announced it was the one before going and getting changed.
To celebrate, Chassidy, Phil, Dan and I went to a Chinese restaurant in ChinaTown. I looked at Dan, looking for a sign to go ahead. He gave a small nod and I cleared my throat. “Um, Phil, I was wondering… well, my dad isn’t obviously going to be at the wedding and I was wondering if you’d do the honor of walking me down the aisle.” I asked. Phil’s eyes got wide and he nodded.
“Yes, I would.” He smiled.
The rest of the dinner was perfect; happy. The way it should be.
