Dan’s POV

I loved the snow, but it was not my friend. Being clumsy and having near death experiences definitely was amplified in the winter. I had a few things to finish up for Haylee and Phil’s presents and then I would finally be done.

Snow was blowing and whipping around, the ground already coated and icy. I was walking carefully, trying not to fall and make a fool of myself. It was bad enough trying not to get hit by taxis, but adding ice to where I was walking? I was going to fall. Leaving the last store, I slipped and landed on my butt. “Woops.” I chuckled. That would definitely go into a video. I stood up, collected my things and put them in the car. I glanced at the clock. It was almost 2:30. Haylee would be out of class soon and I wanted to surprise her. Stopping by the flat, I hid the packages in my room. “Phil, I’m going to surprise Haylee. Do you want to come?” I asked as I passed through the lounge.

“Yeah, sure! Let me grab my jacket.” He replied. Phil shut off his laptop and quickly put on his shoes and jacket.

“Alright, let’s go.” I told him. We stopped at Starbucks and got Christmas drinks, since it was getting so close. I got Haylee a peppermint latte with extra peppermint and chocolate on it. We got to Imperial and I pulled into the parking lot.

“Oh, hey, since we’re here, I’m going to go see if Aubrey’s hanging around in her usual spot. Text me when you’re ready to go, okay?” Phil called as he headed for the library. I replied with an okay and went to find Haylee.

I headed to the art department to see that her class had just let out. She was struggling with her portfolio and I rushed over to help her. “Need some help there, love?” I asked, coming up beside her.

“Dan! Hey, yeah, that would be great!” She nodded, handing me the portfolio. I slid the strap onto my shoulder and handed her the coffee. “Mm, thanks! I needed this.” She sighed happily, taking a drink of the coffee.

“No problem, dear. I thought I’d surprise you today seeing as it’s my day off and I felt bad about you having class.” I told her.

“Aww, well, thanks.” She closed her eyes and rubbed the back of her neck. “I’m so tired.” I wrapped an arm around her shoulders and let her lean on me. She placed an arm around my waist and we walked slowly out of the building. I sent a quick text to Phil telling him we were ready. A few minutes later he reappeared.

“Aubrey wasn’t here.” He commented. “Hi Haylee!”

“Hey Phil. How are you?” Haylee asked quietly.

“Good, how was class?” he replied, climbing into the backseat.

“Exhausting. I was so nervous. We did our final today and I had to present to the class and try and defend my drawing.” She explained, yawning.

“Sweetheart, why don’t you try and get some sleep? You were up pretty late last night working on it.” I suggested. Haylee nodded and closed her eyes, trying to sleep. Once we got home, I carried Haylee to her room and Phil ordered Chinese takeaway for dinner.

Haylee’s POV

The smell of Chinese food woke me up. Slowly, I drug myself out of bed and out to the lounge. “Smells like a Chinese restaurant in here.” I commented.

Dan looked up from his laptop, a noodle hanging out of his mouth. I burst out laughing. “Wha-?” he asked, putting the noodle in his mouth.

“Nothing, you just looked funny!” I laughed. He rolled his eyes and set down his laptop. “Is there any food left?”

“Yeah, there’s a ton! We ordered a lot.” Phil called from the beanbag chair where he appeared to be eating egg rolls while watching TV. I chuckled and grabbed a box of noodles. I curled up on the couch next to Dan. Phil joined us a moment later and we turned on Being Human. After supper, we curled on the couches with our laptops, each of us on tumblr and other random sites.

Dan and I sat across from each other, our feet entangled as our laptops rested on our knees. Every so often, he and I would look at each other and make a funny face or make a joke. Phil would tell us jokes occasionally as well. “Dan, what would you say to us getting a puppy?” I suggested.

“I don’t know, Hays. For one, I don’t even know if the apartment will allow it. Secondly, it’s a big job and I just don’t know if we can do it. There’s no backyard for him to run around in.” Dan explained. However, when Dan looked up from his laptop, he had both Phil and I giving him puppy dog eyes.  “Aw, come on! Not fair, you two! You know I can’t resist puppy dog eyes. Especially not from you, love.” He kissed my cheek. “I’ll think about it, okay? I have to talk to the building manager. Phil, get up. You’re 25, not 5!”

Phil and I chuckled and got up from in front of the couch. I sat back down next to Dan and picked up my laptop. “SHOOT! I completely forgot! PJ and Chris are coming over tomorrow, Phil!” Dan shouted.

“Oh yeah! That’s right! Crap, we have no food. Emergency Tesco trip?” Phil suggested. Dan and I nodded. I grinned as we threw on our coats and shoes. This was going to be fun.

“Dan, you look like you’re Goth! Combat boots, black t-shirt, black skinny jeans and a black coat!” I laughed.

“Oh yeah? You aren’t much different, darling.” He chuckled. I looked down at my outfit. I had on my black boots as well, my black skinny jeans and one of Dan’s black t-shirts. We pretty much matched. We burst out laughing, causing Phil to laugh.

“Alright, let’s get to the store!” Phil chimed. We climbed into the car. Dan pulled into the parking lot of Tesco’s and shut off the car. Dan grabbed my hand as we headed inside. “Where should we go first?”

It took us two hours to finish shopping for everything. We spent well over a hundred dollars and the cart was filled up. After cramming everything carefully into the car, we drove back to the flat. It took four trips to get all of the bags into the flat and then the unpacking began. Putting everything away took another two hours and finally we all collapsed, exhausted.
